northerm tool HF 4x8 folding trailer modification to not fol

Postby Awesomejim » Wed Feb 28, 2018 8:24 pm

I have a folding trailer I was going to just bolt it down but started to worry about trailer inspection and registration in Connecticut. Can I remove the Hinge and replace with a piece of steel to bolt both halves or is that going to cause a problem with inspection and registration? Also can I get it registered before it becomes a camper as I don't think it needs to be inspected? Please let me know if anyone has the solution. Thanks

There is a sticky I thought on doing exactly what your asking. If not you'll have to do a search. Be sure to clean and repack your bearings as a minimum. Look into the problems others have experienced with those trailers. Modify, as needed to avoid the same issues. Good luck on your build!

If you have the mfg's statement of origin and a receipt or bill of sale, on a new purchase I don't think you will have to go thru the inspection process.

Definitely register it before building the camper. I don't think it counts as a camper or RV if it doesn't have built in toilet or water, so the "camper" is just a storage box being hauled by the "utility trailer". You can check CT DMV online, or call and ask.
