Based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for dollar values for 1956 and 2004, a Benroy that retailed for $525 in 1956 (based on the article) would be $3,615 in 2004 dollars.

Still a bargain!

Sounds about right - by those figures a gallon of gas that cost .25 in 1956 would be 1.72 in 2004 dollars. Like you said - still a bargain! Especially after driving and buying gas in the UK...
