Looking for a Place to Camp Near Atlanta

Postby clkelley564 » Mon Nov 26, 2007 12:42 pm

Our Scouts are planning to bicycle the Chief Ladiga Trail/Silver Comet Trail from Jacksonville, AL to Atlanta, then take the Amtrak back to Jacksonville.

We're looking for someplace convenient to both the end of the Silver Comet Trail and the Amtrak station.

There will be van/car support to transport them.

We're looking for something that is tent friendly, and RV friendly (don't necessarily need hookups though.)

If you were looking for something on the Jacksonville end I could help as we are located about 3 miles west of the Chief Ladiga trail where it runs between Weaver and Jacksonville but on the Atlanta end, I have no idea.

Good luck with your trip!

Thanks, but we've got that covered. The Scouts have done the Alabama portion before and the base camp there is in Piedmont, and at the midpoint in GA, we found a campground right on the trail called "The Rock" in Rockmart, GA.

Now we just need to find someplace for the last night before putting them on the train back to Jacksonville/Anniston.

clkelley,

Take a look at the map of "Favorite Campgrounds".(under the tearjerkers logo) Search for Atlanta and the click and look for nearby camping.

Red Top Mountain St Park on Lake Allatoona will be your closest state park and that's about a 30 minute commute into the Silver Comet and Amtrak.
It is however on the "right side" of Atlanta. Down I-75 to I-285 north then exit at the Silver Comet sign.

Might check KOA's
