Lake Guntersville last week in May

Postby rmcelroy » Tue Apr 22, 2008 2:14 pm

The stars have aligned for my relatives to get away to lake Guntersville the last week of May. I told them I would send out a notice to see if any of you would be able to come out. It's been a while since we were out there and they like seeing all you guys campers.

So if anyone is intrested it looks like there will be at least 1 TD there. Hope the weather is nice!

Hey Reggie,

Is that the last full weekend in may? Like Memorial Day weekend?

We havn't set hard dates yet. My sister is a school teacher and has that week off. I know it will probably bump into most folks M-day plans. I would think it will be later in the week after the holiday, starting like the 28th 29 th or so.

It kinda depends on the feed back from all you guys here on the page.

Has anyone seen my tackle box-I mean holy cow who would steal my tackle box.

Have not finished my tear yet, can not get it ready by then. Can I bring a tent?

I could bring pictures and have a virtual tear!

Absolutly Tom, there is always someone building/planning/dreaming.

I called the campground and they are into first come first serve status for the weekend-she said it would be better to show up on Tues or Wed to try and get a spot. We are going to have to skip the weekend and arrive on Mon the 26th, they said people would be leaving in droves.

I know this is a strange plan but I hope to see some of you there.

Let me know what to bring.

Unfortunately won't be able to make it. I will be at Guntersville the weekend of June 6th - 8th with our Scout Troop. They'll be out at the primitive area. I'll be in one of the loops. I'll probably be hanging out on the swimming beach most of the day Saturday playing lifeguard while the boys swim in between their water skiing sessions.

Regie..... WOW !!!! I just booked a flight to go to my son's graduation in Columbus, GA and will be flying in to BHM and then driving over there. I was hoping to get to see you while I'm in Birm. I fly in on Tues 27 and will fly out that Friday afternoon the 30th...

Email me !!!

I see that Guntersville is way north of Birmingham, so I wouldn't be able to drive up there and say Hi to everybody .[/b]

Lock 17 instead

Postby rmcelroy » Sun Jun 08, 2008 7:42 am

Well the Guntersville trip evolved into a first week in June outing to Lock17 in Tuscaloosa Co Al. This was my first trip to an Army Corp of Engineers campground, it is very nice. The sites appear to have been laid out by campers, not designed to pack as many sites as possible into the space. A wandering branch provided every site with the sound of a babbling brook. By eastern (US) standards it is fairly remote, so take what you need or be prepared for a drive.

Got some fishing in and became fasinated the inland waterway we have in this country.

There may be a Tearbarge in the future ;)
