Lynn, great pictures. It sounds like it will be a nice place to go tubing. By the way, what are the rules with bringing water to drink? Also, prices on tubes and other things. Glad you guys had a good time.

Hi Becca,

I'm sorry I forgot to write the prices. Here' the deal with regard to tubing. You rent the tubes from any number of venders, basic tube that holds up to 250 lbs is $5. for the day. The cost to enter the park is $5. per person. If you have the Florida State Park pass you don't have to pay for the park fee. There is an air hose to inflate your tubes or small boats, I didn't see a fee. They will hold your keys for a buck.

As for bringing a water bottle with you, that's a no. I tried, we had to put them back in the car. Seriously, I didn't need a drink. The river water was so refreshing. I imagine it is clear enough to drink but...I didn't try it.

There is a campground very close to the North entrance to the park I didn't check it out but they are online, I've found them before. The time frame from O'Leno to Ichetucknee was 20 minutes about 12 miles.

My family just loves tubing advetures, we love to hunt out new locations...Helen Georgia ect. In fact we just returned from a neat little spot in the North Carolin mountains (http://www.deepcreekcamping.com/index.html).

But being from the "north" I've got to ask the question (don't laugh )

I didn't see any gators and I was under the impression that they tend not to like fresh water. (But that is my own foolishness. They do live in fresh water as well as brackish.) However, one of the other tubers did see a gator sunning himself on shore. Another told me the water is so cold that they are very sluggish.

Also, since this is a state park and a primary source of income, I'm sure they keep the alligators down to a minimum. At least I hope so.

Speaking of otters, they were suppose to be plentiful on the river but we didn't see one. I'm thinking it was because of the hour it was by the time we got on the river.

We did however see a lot of turtles, several fish and various birds. Dragon Flies loved landing on us while we drifted down stream. It's a fairly fast current, the grass was bent over with the speed of the water. Oh, we also saw a brown river snake.

We went to Rainbow River in Dunnellon, FL and loved every minute of it. What a beautiful river and very refreshing (cold!). It took us 5 hours to float but we came prepared with lots of food and drink. Everyone wants to go back again soon. Oh, and we saw 3 otters playing but no snakes.
