Luck O' the Tear March 19-21, 2010 ----- SUMMARY OF EVENT

The weekend after St. Patrick's Day. Come on down, up, sideways, whichever direction and help make this a fun weekend.

The location is Hernando Point on Arkabutla Lake, MS (about an hour south of Memphis, TN).

The dates are Friday March 19th through Sunday March 21st, 2010.

The park is COE and all sites are not reservable. Some are held on a first come basis. If you make a reservation and want to switch to a non-reserved site when you get there, I was told it shouldn't be a problem. ( I will probably be in site 44 or 45 Thursday through Sunday. It's closest to one of the three shower facilities.)

Of course, there will be a pot luck on Saturday. Plus anything else I think of between now and then. Maybe even a leprechaun sighting!!!

Here is a link to check out the park facilities, get directions and make reservations....

Hope to see you there!!

Looks like we'll have the Weekender in site # 47 arriving late afternoon on the 19th, Friday.

Good luck with your Dad-we've gone through it with our parents; our prayers are with you.

Time for another shameless "bump" and update.

Only four sites reserved so far, plenty of room still available.

I realize some have to work and won't be on the road until Friday afternoon. I am going to make it a little easier for you to get set up once you arrive. You don't have to worry about preparing Friday night supper. It's on me. I haven't decided what it will be yet; it may just end up burgers and brats on the grill. :Flippin Burger: I'll figure that out as the date and finances get closer. That includes everybody.... not just the travelers. Nobody cooks Friday night but me.

There may also be an SST for the weekend. I have a friend who is interested; but is concerned it may be too cold for a tent. Being the gentleman  that I am, I told her she could sleep in IttyBitty and I would sleep in her tent. I wouldn't take advantage of the situation, and besides there isn't enough room for two in IttyBitty.

Looking forward to seeing all who want to come.

Saw your post in the other thread and meant to send an invite; but Trail-Jammers beat me to it. Don't know how far you are willing to drive for a gathering; you are definitely welcome to attend. I drive r/t from Memphis to Paducah, Ky almost every Wednesday, so miles don't really mean much to me anymore. Hitch it on up and come on down.

Just keeping this out where any last minute campers may see it and decide to come spend the weekend with us at beautiful Arkabutla Lake this weekend. Yep, just three more days away.

With Spring officially starting this weekend (winter is over!!!!), I was hoping to find some local events that might interest y'all. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like any local groups are holding crafts/art fairs etc. I thought for sure, especially with Easter so close.

If you feel the need to shop... Wal-Mart and Krogers are 15 - 20 minutes away. If you are really bored, the casinos and the outlet center are located in Tunica about 30 - 40 minutes away. I will be able to provide directions to all. Or just bring your fishing pole and drown some worms.

My plans are still to show up Thursday. We are short handed at work (two resignations and one termination last weekend) and schedules are being changed daily. If I'm not there Thursday evening, I will definitely be there EARLY Friday morning.

We're still planning to get there late Friday - probably Friday evening.

Looking forward to it! :)

Got home about 2 hours ago. Tear is unpacked and most of the laundry is done. Canopy is spread out and drying in the spare bedroom over anything and everything I could find to keep it of the floor; but I just know that room is going to smell like campfire for quite a while now. Enough about the after trip drudgery.

Work prevented me from spending Thursday night. I arrived about 8:30ish Friday morning to find Karen all ready set up on her site (actually the one she switched to from her reserved site). The camp ground surprised me... the sites were much larger and more spread out than they appeared on the map. Friday was a beautiful day... sun was out, the temps were very comfortable, couldn't ask for any more. Since we were the first to arrive, Karen and I decided where the meeting and eating gathering places would be (chapter directors perogative!) While Karen went in to town to go to the Yellow Smiley place, I decided to do some geocaching locally before the rest of the group arrived.

Friday night feed that I said I would provide, so that nobody else had to set up and still think about preparing a meal turned out to be strip steaks on the grill, baked beans and potato salad. Karen provided dessert. We had invited some of the big trailer people to join us for dessert as they provided some much appreciated assistance earlier in the day. Friday night campfire lasted til after midnight.

Saturday started out nice; but the weather reports were on everybody's mind as heavy rains and thunderstorms were predicted. Lots and lots of "nickel tours" were given of those "cute little trailers". I didn't even try to keep any kind of count. The four trailers that did attend provided enough variety to attest to the fact that you can have anything you want in a compact space. The rain held off til late in the evening, so we were able to enjoy another campfire until about 10 o'clock before we had to retreat to the shelter of our trailers. Never did develop into thunderstorms, and the heaviest rain really wasn't until about 9:30 this morning and by noon it had totally stopped. Perfect timing to pack up, say goodbyes until next time, and head for home.

I forgot a few things when packing (as usual) including my camera, so there won't be any pics until I see what other people took that I can steal..errr, I mean borrow... to post.

We had a great time Jerry, thanks for setting this gathering up.

By the way, we got home to snow showers in the Jackson area most of the afternoon! :snow It just doesn't seem right - snow in central Mississippi in late March.
