If you want the best campground ever, in the western mountains, head to Turkey Creek Campground, in Almond, NC. Almond is just south of Bryson City and just north of the Nantahala Gorge. Plenty to do in the area. The campground caters to tenters, teardrops, tent trailers. No big rigs, no generators running, just the sound of the creek running through the campground. The owners a great people, they have ice and firewood for sale on site, coffee and baked goods for sale on the weekends. And then there are the bathrooms - best ever. There are also laundry facilities, a sink for dishwashing, a covered deck for relaxing and a game room. The weekends can be busy there with groups coming to raft the Nantahala, but Mike enforces quiet time, so no worries there. I only discovered Turkey Creek last year, but will spend at least a week there for many years to come. Check out the other reviews on Trip Advisor. You won't be disappointed with a stay at Turkey Creek.
