Wind Generator Pics

Postby bdosborn » Wed Nov 14, 2007 9:26 pm

I finished my wind generator awhile back but never got around to posting some pictures so here they are:

I got the itch to build one after Eddie Miller posted pictures of his:

I haven't had a chance to fly it yet and probably won't for awhile since I've got the Tear put away for the winter. So I don't have any performance reports to give. But, I've got links if anyone is interested in building their own.

Very cool. The last time I went camping I could have used that. 30mph winds constant with 75mph gusts  Blew my tent up the mountain, hence another reason I want a teardrop.

thank you kindly.... that will keep me busy for hours. 8) Great idea for TD btw. I often camp where there are 0 services, just back up to the lake and there you are.

Of course! Ed Miller beat me to it though, here's a picture of his setup:

even a low amp model like 5 amps would be great for topping off batteries. That combined with a solar panel and recharging batteries should be a thing of the past. Whats the probability of making one with blades small enough that it can operate while you travel to keep batteries charged. Show up with a full charge, attach the larger blades and raise it like a flag to keep em topped off while you camp.

Maybe you and Eddie can have a contest to see who can generate the most electricity within a specified amount of time. I'll look for you guys in the sun at IRG.

Are you going to drive with it up so you can charge your batteries?

What motor did you use? I have many more questions but they have to wait until I get home to get the details off the motor I have sitting in the garage... If I remember correctly it says on the lable... 24v 250W and 0.7 amp. Not sure how to do the math on blade size and voltage or amperage output that I will recieve from it.

Wimperdink and Chris,

I think the wire from my truck's alternator will take care of the on road battery charging. Highway speeds would tear the windmill apart pretty quickly. I'm hoping it will cover my energy needs at night when the solar panel doesn't work so good. :R

Rocky,
I'm sure we'll be in the same place - out in the sun.
