I often see unusual names of places crop up on this forum and others and wonder where in the hell they came from. I think most areas have a few.
We have one up the road a bit. A little place named Salmon Gums. No water within a bulls roar of the place, farming country.
It would seem it is named after a tree not a fishes mouth.
The bark of this particular eucalypt called a salmon gum, eucalypts are known generally as gum trees in Oz, turns a salmon pink about this time of year and the area has quite a few of these trees resulting in it being called Salmon Gums.
Take it easy.
