My awning is made of 3/4 pvc pipe the awning frames are glued up and the cross pieces are left unglued but the fabric of the awning allows enough tension to keep the set up together in use. The awning system is simply strapped down to the frame.

REVIEW

After 2 full seasons and some use in the 3rd season, the little TD has held up very well. Most of the trailer exterior is just as it was the very first day. The paint is showing some dirt but I intend to paint it to match my new tow vehicle. I have used this TD in the temperature range from mid 20 degree to mid 90 degree weather. My exhaust fan is adequate in most temps. Only in high temp/humidity combination do I envy those with AC. The TD has been towed up to 75 mph and towed through torrential rains with strong winds and has remained dry except for this last trip when a very small amount of water infiltrated. The infiltration was traced to a small hole in my vinyl window. I'll replace the window film and that will take care of the problem. Considering I drove through a a blinding rainstorm the leakage was minor. Only current changes underway are painting the running boards and mounting the spare tire to the tongue platform. I love the high stance provided by the boat trailer because of the roads that I travel near some of the kayaking rivers. Some of the campground roads are pretty rough as well.

What would I do differently? Can't think of anything right now.

Thanks for being the fore runner for the rest of us. I am so glad to have made the Foamie choice! Love the long term road test review. Does anyone know of a single structural failure yet? We've had mishaps but no incidents AFAIK of walls breaking off or collapsing or punctures by bears, frozen turkeys or tree limbs or.... Just success stories. HOORAY FOR US! :applause: :applause: :applause:

We had some bird poop on the foamie #1 , that’s about as disastrous as it got , besides the Hail storm ... :frightened: Foamies SURVIVE !!!

Haven’t heard any mention of the dreaded ROT yet either ... :D

Pat

Just read through your build log tonight. nice build. and GL on the learning to play the guitar. Love the traveling guitar. I usually take a dulcimer if it is not planning on raining the whole time I’m out.

Love pictures of your camping. looks like I’m not the only one that always gets rained on while camping.

Just read your entire build thread. I really like how it all turned out. I'm really impressed with how well your canvas looks. The overlaps look perfect. Have you figured how much fuel mileage you lose towing?

Pat G.,
I know it's been several years since you posted your build journal, but are you available to answer a few questions to a new foamie builder? I'm using white styrofoam covered with 1/4" polystryrene to create an airstream shaped front and use the Winter Warrior design to create and lifting rear section to make it a standie. Fling blind a little on this.

GPW,
Rather than kerf 2" pink polystrene,I used the beaded white foam to create a curved form, then glued 1/4" pink poly (fan-fold material) in pieces to the exterior using Great Stuff. Two layers done and working on the 3rd to create a 3/4" cover. Added 2" pink poly reinforcing brackets to the back of the styrofoam since it is not strong material. I am in the process of adding pics to my album.
