Kinda like winning the lottery!

Postby Ptomaine » Mon Mar 25, 2013 11:42 am

Last week, I had to set my alarm for 5:45 AM on my day off just so I could be on the Ontario Provincial Parks site when reservations opened up for 5 months in the future at Killarney. I clicked on the campsite I was hoping to get and at 7AM and 1 second (eastern time) I clicked on the 'reserve this site' button. I already had an account, so the reservation only took a couple of minutes to complete. When I was done, I checked the website again and saw the campground was fully booked a couple of minutes after reservations opened. I believe there were only about 6 sites opening up that day. You have to be an early bird to catch the Killarney worm. ;)
Now I have to wait until August to see if i picked a good site.

Hey Ptomaine, congrats.
Sometimes it's hard getting into the popular campgrounds, glad to hear you were successful.
What date did you book for in August? There might be a lucky opening for someone to join you.

"Lucky" you are it's a very popular campground. Us Canadians really like our camping. The early-morning booking event is common. It's like that at lot of popular Canadians campsites (pinery/killbear/sandbanks/algonquin/bon echo) It's a beautiful area don't forget your camera :pictures:

Did you really want to go to a Campground that is that full?
I thought camping was enjoying the Great Outdoors! in Solitude!
Campgrounds that are packed full are like living in the city! :x
Even Ontario must have some beautiful open space to Camp without having to feel like a lottery winner to get in?

I am staying four nights starting Friday, August 16. Last year I spent a few nights each at Lake Superior & Sleeping Giant Provincial Parks. I decided to check out Lake Huron this year. I have only been east Lake Superior in Ontario once, and that was over 30 years ago.
I'll definitely have the camera.

The camper is all packed, and I am chomping at the bit to get out of here. Two days of work before I leave.
It's almost 1000 km, and I lose a time zone; I will be taking the trip in two legs. Staying near Sualt Ste. Marie on Thursday night
then a leisurely drive to Killarney on Friday (with a stop in Sudbury for some groceries and Beer). The weather report has changed
from sunny to rain and now back to sunny again. looking good!
