Hey Dano and Mindy!
Merry Christmas!!
Okay here is the skinny on San Luis Reservoir. On My 50th birthday I wanted to go to Los Banos!! WTH!!?? Yeah I know Los Banos, but they have an old school Basque Wool Growers family style restaurant there. Dawn and the kids humored we and we drove down there for the heck of it...bit of a drive...the food was good home style food wiht plenty of the basics and homemade wine. I liked it...maybe not worth the drive for just that.
On the way back we stopped at the reservoir visitor centers to use the bathrooms and do a little visiting. I then drove over and we checked out the same campsites your were refering too. I asked the park people if we could check it out. Nice little area...not many trees. The lake has no beaches and is just a reservoir...that is about it. I was thinking the same thing you were thinking...UNTIL we started to leave and stopped to talk to the park rangers. Both said the area tends to get overrun with the locals and they tend to have to call the police more than they would want. They said that they would not recommend it as a family campsite.
I was all high on it being a little get away like you were thinking about, now it is a no go. Dawn especially would not consider it after she heard what the park people said.
Well after that we did the circle come back up through morgan hill and stopped where Dawn grew up and back home to San Ramon. My special birthday adventure!!
I still want to do top of Mt. Diablo!! at the campsite up there..any ideas on other places are welcome also.
I keep the catolac at my parents in Livermore and go saturday or sunday and do some work on the trailer...lots of fun Huckleberry!!
Seriously rethink San Luis.
