Gone but not forgotten.

The Jewel Box II now has a new owner. She brought Julie and I together, let's just hope this new project won't tear us apart! Introducing the Toy Box.

It was a little sad to think of not having my silver & gold Jewel Box but me and Kenny love jumping on the motorcycle and we've had so many times when we're camping and wished we had the bike with us. Or a few times I would tow the teardrop and he would follow on his motorcycle but that means we're both driving. So this new cargo conversion, which we think will be named the Toy Box, was a very good trailer at a very good price and will be able to carry the motorcycle then pull it out and pull down the Murphy bed , have inside storage and bathroom. It seems absolutely huge to me after having a teardrop camper for the last six or seven years!
Some things are way over my head !! ...but it keeps me looking UP!

Very nice, especially cuz I know Mrs. Green, the former Jewel Box Julie, has been fortunate to find her camping partner and soul mate!!, Keep up the TD lifestyle. Happy trails to you both! Joanie TDN

I'm with Thomas and everyone else - we're eagerly awaiting y'all's new build.

We've been kicking around the idea of "moving up" to something bigger with a bathroom inside too. A CTC is on our wish list.

Please remember to document your conversion and post lots of pictures.

Right now we are drawing and redrawing and reredrawing out plans. Even did a little mock up this morning (see pic) that has already prompted a few changes. I will be creating a build thread and I will link to it in this thread.

Wanted to post an update on our progress. Haven't had a lot of extra time lately to get a build thread started, but I'll add a couple of pics here. I have LOTS of pictures and will someday get them all organized and posted in a thread. But for now.....We have gotten the insulation all done except for the side door, I want to take the door apart and strengthen it some. Windows have been installed, rooftop AC installed, and ceiling is in. Electric is in progress. I have 120v panels installed (main and a subpanel for inverter circuits) and the 12v converter installed. So far, 2-120v outlets and 2-12v lights and the AC are the only things working. Murphy bed is made, but I don't want to install it yet until I get the epoxy flooring put down. We have repositioned all the rings in the floor where we need them for strapping down the motorcycle. We have collected just about everything we need to finish (toilet, tub, water tanks, sinks, etc.) Its a rather large pile of stuff in the shop, but slowly diminishing.

Inside of trailer as we bought it:

windows in and murphy bed set in place: (We almost went camping this last weekend as it is in this pic, but had to prepare for our new house instead)

I spy a pop up in the corner of one of those photos but with that progress, it doesn't look like you will need it!!

Thomas, that pop up is kind of a funny story. I saw it on Craigslist for $100 and went to look at it with the intention of using parts from it on the build. However when I got there I really didn't see anything useful to me. But in talking to the owner and explaining what I was building and parts I was needing, he decided to throw in 2 fresh water tanks (one of them exactly the size I was looking for) several pieces of 1" square steel I needed for framing in windows and such, a couple old coleman lanterns and a few other misc odds and ends. So, I took it all home for $100. Turns out the pop up only needs new canvas, a little freshening up and 1 tire, everything else works fine. Project for another day.

Wow. I woulda picked that up for a hundred bucks too! even just for the frame, but since it doesn't need much, I'd agree to make it a restoration project for resale or a guest camper!
