I was there this past weekend. It was ok, but there are a lot better parks in my opinion. Have a good time. Beware of Chiggers!!!! I had to take Baby Girl to the vet this week. Some kind of bug ate her up. Whatever it was didn't bother my big dog Rocky. I'm not sure if it was mosquito or ants. I'm glad they are both on Trifexis. The vet told me that chiggers don't bother dogs. I dunno bout dogs, but they sure ate me up!!!

HMK thanks for the heads up, Those dogs you got look a lot like me when I camp. I think we will leave the critters at home for this trip.
Man I heard a lot of good things about this park, what do I need to stay away from thanks.

There's nothing wrong with the park and they have lots of campsites. As you can see in my pictures, mowing isn't high on their agenda. Keep yourself covered in "OFF" at all times. I made the mistake if going at taking a shower late one night and going to bed without reapplying. BIG mistake! I was covered in chiggers and Mosquito bites the next morning. We had a good time, but probably won't go back, as there are better parks that fit our style. One more thing we didn't care for...you have to choose your site at check in. That's a big issue for me because I like to look my campsites over before choosing one.

Like I said, it's not a bad park, just not a park for us.

Have a great time and tell us all about it. Your experience may be totally different from mine.

For some reason, Loyd Park at Joe Pool doesn't have the chiggers that Cedar Hill SP at Joe Pool lake does. Loyd Park is also better maintained than Cedar Hill.

Man, Camping in June, you don't like the cold but you must like the heat haha, but I am in for a Loyd Park deal since this will probably the last one until Sept and I am about to sell my two campable campers in a couple weeks.

When you say Joe Poll there are a few parks to choose from. I like Cedar Hill mainly because I have a state park pass and you can always get a site since there's 355 of them. We know Loyd Park already which seems to have the sites more cleared and they seem to be cooler with the booze, after my last visit, I vote for Loyd Park. If they are full, we know Cedar Hill always have sites.

Regarding choosing sites, Alot of State parks "want" you to choose a site but you don't have to if you work it right. I was there three weeks ago, and you just need to get a day use pass to get through the door and toured the sites and get a plan a, b, and c and then return to reserve a site. Its just working through the system. Some SPs are cooler than others, but I noticed this here too. I always prefer picking a site in person too.

Hmm, I will hop on Loyd Parks site now and report back, but first... a trip to the fridge....

I checked the weekend of the 13th and the loop we were in the past few times, Loop E is the only one with any string of openings and all the other loops are pretty booked. Sites in the 30's are together. (check out the pic) If you want to reserve, Google Loyd Park reservations and it will get you there, these sites actually have screen shots to let you view the site first which is cool!

Who is first?

Danny?

If he sayeth, thy liquid will pour from one container to the next...

If we are going to get sites together we should book quickly, it would be good to take the Kenskill on a farewell trip. I have my eyes on site 135 but I won't camp in 90 degree weather without encouragement LOL. Let's chime in!

I am booked in Site 131 the 20th and 21st. I'll be in my "new" 1970 Shasta I bought yesterday (yes another one). This one is nice because it is ready to camp in now and has a nice interior, screen door and an awning, (and half the weight of the Kenskill). The job I need to do now is setting up an air conditioner!!

Hey, that's a nice one!!!! I've been out looking all day. I saw a 78 hard sided pop up, but it wasn't what the wife was looking for as it had no potty or shower.

I've been looking for a few months now, what has helped me is to have the money already withdrawn and in an envelope at home, because reaction time is a huge factor. Saying this, knowing exactly what parameters you must have and what is flexible, and most importantly getting comfortable with saying NO. It is an odd feeling after you get worked up about something a few times and saying no to it, it really helps you level set so when you say YES you are 100% comfortable with it!

That's a good idea about keeping the money handy. My taste tends to go Vintage and I wanted to go look at the hard sided pop up cause I had never seen one. It was in fair condition, but it would have been a mosquito's paradise and it had more holes than Swiss cheese. Ha ha.

The wife is looking at newer trailers. I told her that was fine as long as it's small. I don't want to tow a house all over Texas.

Maybe after seeing a few older campers compared to newer ones she will see the difference in quality and for for older. I rented an R Pod once and was shocked at the construction, I would call through a wall If I leaned on it!
