Postby Sonetpro » Wed May 10, 2006 9:31 pm

I am putting the finishing touches on the cabin. I am installing a stereo and a LCD TV.
I have seen quite a few others putting them in thier tears.

So my question is. I have never seen a antenna on anybody's tear. What do ya'll use????

What I use is sort of basic...a set of rabbit ears set on top of the trailer with a cable run to the TV. It works OK, not great, but all I want to do is watch the news before I go to sleep.

I've looked into rv antennas, with an amplifier, and have talked to several rv owners about them. They say they work well.. problem is though they fold down onto the roof, the are quite big for a tear. they would work, but also they certainly would ruin the tear effect we kind of shoot for...

I use rabbit ear (one, cheap set) inside, or cable. I have an A-B switch beside the tv to switch... I also bring tapes and have a vcr/dvd player. for those areas where there is no reception... in reality, I rarely watch the tapes... If nothing local, I read a book.

The one I looked at was the 4th one down:

DirecTV with the dish mounted to a small piece of PVC pipe anchored in a block of concrete. I set the dish near the next campsite so it looks like his dish

You might look at Billnut's setup on antennas. It may be extreme case but good use. Also look under To CB, or not to CB

There are other antennas ideas just do a "search" at the top of the page.

I use the cable that some RV parks have if not I use the BOSS ANT-8
http://www.bossaudio.com/home/catalog/p ... &catNum=14 just the antenna part not the booster. Most of the time we just pop in a dvd because there is usually no TV reception.

When It comes to women(read wives...) there is no manual, and if one is ever written, it would probably be written by a man... and as soon as it was written, they'd change the rules.....

SteveH, Do the Rabbit Ears work ? Are you using the Amplified type ? Do you have to plug them into 110 v?
All the ones I've seen say "indoor use only" I can't see what the big deal would be if they got rained on. (except for the plug in style)
I have a cable TV outlet jack on the side if my rig, so I would only need a 3 foot cable to be able to set a pair of Rabbit ears on top.
I do have a DVD player if I'm interested in a movie. Getting the news or weather is all I'm after, but again Wifey is a differant story, when we had the motor home the TV was on constantly.
I'm going to try the rabbit ears first, if they don't perform, I think I'll try the Wingard HA 1030 fold-up umbrella unit.

Yes, the rabbit ears work. Not great...you won't pull in stations from 50 miles away or anything, but they work, are cheap, and fold up small for storage. I set them on top of the trailer and plug into a coax connector I installed in the floor of the trailer.
