Wish Me Luck! May Have Found My Teardrop! *Update Time*

Postby shootr » Sat Oct 11, 2014 9:28 am

Going to go look at a Craigslist listing that hits all the right specs this morning. Thanks to wandering this thread for the past several years, I think I have a pretty good idea what to watch out for, how to spot not-so-obvious problems, and what I want in a teardrop so we can use it a lot and enjoy it.

Man I hope this works out, but if it doesn't it doesn't - I don't need to drop hard earned cash on somebody else's problem.

That's the problem! Between wife's nursing work schedule, visiting grandson, yada yada yada, we don't know!!!

We're in Mesa AZ so mostly Prescott, Payson - places a couple hours away but green and cool.

The builder/owner did a great job for his first effort. It's 90% of what I would want to do in my own build - but with twice the quality of what my skills could produce. Trailer was welded and reinforced, he put on the levelers, has it wired for 12V and 120V - battery and shore power. The cushions are in 4 pieces and can be stacked in one end to make room for other stuff.

I tweaked some wiring issues, patched a small hole inside the hatch in the wood - then just cleaned it and stared at it all day.

You are so lucky! The best part of the camping season is just starting in your area.
Make sure you check out a Gathering or to in your area.
Once you meet some fellow TDers you will Love your TD even more!

Yeah! The schedule gods have smiled and we both have next weekend off, so official outfitting of the as of yet unnamed teardrop has begun.

Swapped out all the bulbs for LED ones to maximize battery life (had to reverse the Kitchen wiring so they would work - thanks to other posters for pointing me in the right direction to fix that).

Went garage sale hopping and found a few little things - utensils, fry pan, paper towel holder, candles to make firestarters, etc.

This afternoon it's putting together a tool kit to leave on the trailer - lugnut wrench, various sockets, screwdrivers, fuses, etc. and continuing to organize and place things/supplies.

Haven't spent a night in it yet but am having a ball!

Good for you! Looks like a nice trailer and should work out great. You live in a good area to camp in so go out and enjoy life. :applause:

780 lb tire load rating x 2 tires = 1560 lb capacity. Plus, the hitch should carry about 150 lb of the load, so if your trailer doesn't weigh over 1600 lb, you should be OK. Or am I missing something?

The wheels are on backwards - valve stem was on the inside for some unknown reason. Went to check the pressure and - whoops - what the heck

Flipped them around, didn't see anything wrong - just weird.

By the way, anybody have recommendations on good deep cycle batteries?

about the wheels and tires Look at the distance from the inside and check the distance once you have turned the tire around. my friend went with their wheel on backwards because it gave 1/2 inch of extra room on the trailer side. Just a thought. When one of these little tires GO often the whole tire plus rim goes. That is why places sell them together. check the clearance on the inside and if it is better backwards you can get the tire remounted. looks like you are ready to camp!!! Congratulations on your find!!!!

Hi and thank you Mary,

I was wondering about the offset but visually it was too close to call. Either way there is pretty good clearance between tire/rim and trailer so I'm going to leave them valve stem out for easier monitoring. That was weird, and embarrassing - I thought I did a pretty decent inspection but sure missed that one!

Sorry Mary
I hate to have a laugh at your expense!
But, unless the tires are unidirectional like on some exotic cars. Remounting them will not change the stem location on the wheel.
And, wheels are made to be mounted (properly) only one way.....thus the taper for the wheel nuts.
If you need more space, you need to buy wheels with the correct Backspace and Offset! You don't just turn them around!!!
Have a Great Day and thanks for trying to be helpful. :)
