Foundry work was my bread and butter 10 years ago. I spent 11 years working in Chrysler Foundry/Indianapolis. A lot of new hires never made it to lunch break before they quit. The company ran a shuttle bus to the jail for work release workers, who figured a temp job in a hot/dirty/dangerous foundry was better than a jail cell. When they got released, quite a few of them stayed on and took full time jobs. This was the only Chrysler plant that took all raw materials and made a product= iron engine blocks for cars, jeeps and trucks. I guess I was one of the tough ones who stuck it out to the end- Oct -2005, closed and the work was shipped overseas.
