New CampInn 560 Ultra owner

Postby Java Jack » Tue Oct 14, 2014 5:45 pm

I know that most of this site is dedicated to the DIY crowd but I just don't have the time (or experience) to build a really nice teardrop so I opted to buy one.

Just picked up a used 2012 CampInn 560 Ultra that was fully loaded. Wow, this thing is very well designed and constructed. When I first started looking at teardrops, the only thing I could find locally was the T@B/T@G line. After looking at them in person, I was just not impressed with the construction quality or materials used to build it. I then found the CampInn site and they set me up with someone local so I could see one in person and it was very cool. I saw several others online that looked like they might be comparable to CampInn but could not find one around me to see it in person. No one else seemed to offer the slightly larger version like the 560 so we ultimately settled on that one.

The very day I was to place my order with CampInn, one came up for sale online. I contacted the owner, it was good, but not exactly what we were looking for so, next day was a weekend so I decide to place my order on Monday...2 more pop up for sale. Contact both owners, these are much closer to what I wanted but both were really far from me...30+ hour drive. So, again, I decide to place my order on Monday...Monday comes and yet 1 more shows up for sale, this was closer (16 hours) but it is fully loaded (more than I was even planning on ordering) and was well taken care of...speak with campinn and they knew the people selling it and even told me they knew it was in great shape because they saw it after some big trips.

This is sounding better and better...owners send me bunch of pics, it looks pretty good. So I agree to come look at it and take it home if it holds up. Owners were awesome and said they would meet me along the way and save me about 5 hours drive time...I'm thinking I am lucky. Then owners contact me and say "Ya know, we are retired and have always wanted to see your area, how about we just meet you out there?" Whoa, I am blown away but sure! So I meet the owners about 2 hours from my town and the thing looks really good. However, owners feel bad because they hit a bunch of rainstorms on the way out so it is dirty on the outside...so they knock off $1K on the price, throw in every accessory they had (screen tents, etc.)...yes, I snapped that up in a hurry.

Here is my beauty after washing it up.

While we have not yet had it out in the wild, we have spent 4 nights in it while parked in our driveway/garage. We love this thing already.

I know this post is a bit lame but it's one of those things you are just too excited and need to share.

Thanks. We really love this thing and hope to enjoy it for many years.

My wife and I are planning to build one for our daughter and her husband. They both enjoy camping and have a baby on the way so we don't want the grand baby to sleep in a tent.

He is in the Navy so they she is by herself when he is out to sea so they don't get a lot of time together since he can be out for 6-9 months. So, camping is something fun they can do while he is in port. We want to build them a small, light trailer they can pull with their 4 cyl. Rogue. I think we are going to start on it next spring when we have more time.

At some point, we may try to build a custom one for ourselves once we have a little more experience with ours and also building one.

Glad to hear that things worked out great for you. We like the design of the campinn 560 that we are building a slightly larger take on it. That video is the best I have seen. Great work on that as well, and congratulations.!

Thanks...Just read through your build thread...looks really good.

The video was just done because I could not find much in the way of videos. Doggorunning has some good ones but that was all I could find. I figure others might want some additional footage and perspective so I popped it up. I am going to do a few more to show the detail of the CampInn build, some on setup and take down and some just on what camping is like when you live in this thing for days or weeks at a time.

I look forward to following the rest of your build and seeing the finished project. I am guessing you are getting so close now you can taste the finished product.

Yep, I do feel quite luck but it also feels like it was just meant to be as everything just came together so easily. I do want to spend some time getting the aluminum skin cleaned up. There are some scratches and wear marks that could stand to be buffed out or something. I am just not quite sure how to do it. Aluminum can be tricky to work with so I need to do some research.

If I was in the market for a Campinn, that's the one I would get. I'm happy for you and wish you many good miles ahead! I especially liked the part about you spending four nights in it in the driveway already! Sounds like something I would do!

Thanks. Yep, we are 4 nights in (+ 1 lazy afternoon nap). 2 nights in the driveway, 2 nights in the garage after we got it cleaned up so there was room to park the teardrop in there. I'm guessing it wont be the last either.

The cool thing is now when company comes, we have even more places for them to sleep.

Had our maiden voyage in it over the weekend. It was a blast...our camp neighbors had a drone and captured some great aerial footage of the trailer and the campground.

Looks like a lot of fun. Very cool video. Thanks for sharing. The drive there made me chuckle since I'm a "Tonka Truck", "Horses" kinda gal. (Tom girl even as an adult.) The aerial from the drone was great. Just adds to the fun.
