I like the paper shredding idea. We do create a ton of it.

I've watched lots of guys start fires all kinds of ways. Nothing does it faster than the torch. Plus everyone has the green propane bottles. Just add the torch head. Boom. Instant fire.

When my ex wife got angry she could start fires with the lightning bolts that shot from her eyes

I took some students tramping last year and we went to light a camp fire.
I was collecting cones etc and came back to see one use a spraycan of deodorant and a lighter!

Worked a treat

(I know it is dangerous so no need for big long rants - kid had his spraycan and lighter confiscated)

My fire lighters of choice for the bbq are the redheads recycled cardboard ones.
Recycled so good for the environment, no solvents or petrochemicals, no odor or taste in food, can be completely saturated (I left some in the rain for 5 days) and dry out perfectly
If you don't have that brand there look for the same style of recycled product
Forgot to mention super easy to light even if been wet prior and biodegradable so not bad karma tossing them either

Paper Egg Crates
Wood Shaving from Table saw or Planer (better) or paper shredder
1 Gallon tin can (double Boiler Best)
Unused junk candles. (garage sales or ask your friends)
Strike Anywhere Matches
Stanley Razor Utility Knife

1. Fill egg cartons till overflowing and tamp down in each hole, repeat and fill till level with top
2. Heat wax (I use woodstove) Hot is best, smoking is bad, bend pouring spout in can.
3. Fill each compartment with wax till level with top (wax should seep into carton cardboard).
4. Let cool for a few minutes then push strike anywhere match in each one.
5. Let setup complete (overnight) then cut using Stanley Razor Knife
6. Burn all the ones you don't like.

I have added the fines left over at the bottom of the charcoal bag to the same set up above.

It may be wishful thinking but they seem to burn a bit longer.

At least I don't string the dust all over when the bag is tossed :)
Growing older but not up !

I use a couple different styles depending on weather and NEED for fire.

We seal up cotton balls and petroleum jelly inside of straw tubes, cut the end on one and drag out just a bit and strike a mag firestriker and it lights very fast and about a 4 inch length will burn for about 5 minutes and easily light normal wood. oh and we also use the sealed up straws to save aspirin, seasonings, and all kinds of small stuff dry.

I have 90% rubbing alcohol or HEAT packed in camping gear and cut the lower half of a coke can and then set it under the kindling, fill with heat/alcohol and let it burn, will burn plenty long to have a great fire.

I do have a small paint can style can that we got new without anything in it. I packed it with lint, cotton balls with jelly, and stuffed in two pine cones, pour wax over it all and added a few strings for lighting and then seal the can. I have had this can for about two yrs and have not yet had the need for it yet.

Last ditch effort, will get any fire going and burns even longer than the last method, we use either a half gallon sized metal can, roll of toilet paper, and a mixture of heat and diesel fuel. TP in can first, soak with mixture, then strike match and stack wet logs or kindling on top of and you will have a fire.

Me and a buddy went camping in the Snowy's while down in Laramie at Tech school. Had no fire starter of any sort. I pulled the fuel line off the carb, cranked it over to soak some paper towels, hooked the jumpercables to the battery and arced the leads. BOOM instant fire.
The biggest difference between a dreamer and a doer is the follow through.
