Single burner propane stoves?

Postby Ira » Tue May 30, 2006 8:39 am

Has anyone used those single burner jobs with the two collapsible legs, where the bottle itself makes the third leg?

If so, does it hold a large size frying pan?

I'm considering getting a few of these and throwing them in the porthole storage area in my galley when not in use.

I've got one of those where the unit screws right onto the top of the bottle and use it often.... never with a c/i fry pan, though.....

Do you have a link to a pic?

I also use one like this...

I was thinking of this $12 Brinkmann:

Brinkman Stove Clicky

(Okay--shoot me. I left my Tiny URl instructions at home and my feeble mind forgot how to make one.)

EDIT: fixed extra long link for ya..........MJ

Ira, I have never used that specific brand/model but have used similar ones...they will work well for most things but are not quite as stable as a reglar style camp stove....however, unless you are planing on a LARGE CI DO filled with boiling oil to fry fish in, then you should be OK...........

I think he means Cast Iron (pan) or Dutch Oven.

I've used a collapsable single burner backpacking stove that had 3 legs and the propane can was just off to the side, as well as a white gas stove that just attatched to the top of the gas can. I don't think I'd use either one with a large pan (too top-heavy), but they work wonders with small meals for 1-2 people.

Coop--it's that side-feed thing on your unit that kills you space-wise. The one I posted takes up a ton less space.

Ira-

The side tube thingy is removable (and doubles as a one-hit).

Is it storage space or actual cooking space you are concerned with?

I just know the lower stoves do better with bigger pans, center of gravity thing...

Coop

Rain, that little stove is very nice...it is widely used by truckers, the only orblem is that while the fuel cartridges are fairly available, they are not available everywhere like the 1# cans are...
...that little Avanti stove/oven is a cute little bugger...HUH
