anniversary Halloween camping trip

Postby desertmoose » Tue Nov 03, 2015 1:09 am

We went camping for the 22nd anniversary of the night we met... yep, Halloween, 1993,
Were in the mountains over 7,000 feet. Nice during the day (t-shirt weather), but got a bit cool at night. We had a pan of water sitting on the table overnight. it was more than skinned over, it was a solid block of ice. Frost over everything until the sun came out. Nice and warm in the tear though, even with no heater other than body heat. We did sleep with both windows open a bit. The tear is so tight it "squeaks" when closing the door due to air escaping past the window seals. Wouldn't be a good idea to keep them closed while sleeping. Thanks Miss Kat for another great trip.

Thanks, Mike.
We only had a couple of blankets and each other. Was a bit chilly going to bed, so I took off my shoes and poked them under the bed, then crawled between the covers with my clothes on and read for a bit. After a while, I took off my clothes and got back under the now warmer covers...
We slept well, with both windows open a bit and listening to the creek.

The insulated coveralls were required after the sun went down. It gets cold real quick, as I'm sure you know.

Mo and I are curious too? Where ever it is, it looks like a great spot for a camp. As much as I enjoy the few gatherings we go to (only one this year) we really much prefer finding a spot that we can camp without others. Like you we have a shower/toilet set up and we have all that we need, so back country camping doesn't pose any issues for us.

Is that an Engel sitting in the back of the pickup? Great fridges, eh?

It's in the mountains on the Nevada/California border north of Bridgeport, Ca. Near Sweetwater Summit.

A favorite of ours for years. Getting to be not as relaxing since the quads/utv's have pretty much taken over.
Multiple Toyhaulers circled around a bonfire with herds of noisy quads buzzing in and out like bees from a hive is pretty much the norm there nowdays.

This late in the year, it was cold enough it kept the majority on them away.

Yep, it's an Engel, rebadged as a Norcold. A bit bigger than we wanted (60 quart), but we found it for $500 and couldn't pass it up. I did have to fix the 12v side of the power supply... previous owner wired a 120 plug to the 12v input cable and plugged it in. Fortunately, it only ran about $10 for new diodes to get it going on 12v again.

Don't know how I missed this; but, I skim through pretty fast, these days.
That's a pretty spot to camp at.
