In the 24 months since I purchased it there have been 3 major issues:
1) Around 3K miles the trans shifted into neutral cruising at 70 MPH twice in 2 days. The first Trans software patch fixed that and it never returned. I always had a rough shift problem from 2nd to 3rd. The multitude of software updates was never able to correct it.
2) At 22K miles the Oil filter housing cracked on the engine. Oil ran down the engine block and all over the underside including the exhaust. I found out when I noticed smoke coming from under the car.
3) Last week (35K miles) I started hearing a popping noise from the rear and could feel it while accelerating. This was the final nail. I decided to trade it in. I spoke to the service adviser who called to congratulate me on the new grand. He told me they had to order an entire new rear end assembly including the half shafts.
On top of this there have been a number of small issues that have been taken care of but all required a trip to the dealer.
They are actually still investigating a loud whine that was happening while accelerating through 2500 RPM in second and third that has been ongoing since 19K miles. This will probably require a rebuild or replacement of the transmission. Hopefully the next owner will have a trouble free vehicle by the time they are finished.
I absolutely love the KL but I don't need a vehicle that requires so much maintenance just to keep it on the road.
