Hello, Team
I am sure I am asking a question that has been asked before, but here goes:
I am building a 5x9 trailer on the classic Northern Tool bolt together 5x8 trailer. It seems like this a pretty common trailer and I think many of you may be familiar with it.

The trailer comes with some pretty wimpy looking 12” tires. I, being a total ignoramus regarding trailers, thought that I could simply take of the 12” tires and put on some cooler looker 14” or 15” tires. Not the case.
It turns out that if I put on 15” tires it would leave me with an inadequate amount of frame clearance.
I know that a lot of people here have fixed this by buying Dexter torsion axels. I called a Dexter dealer today and they told me that the axle would cost $270 + and require me to get electric breaks. This is more than I was planning on spending and seems to make things a lot more complicated.
Northern Tool sells axles for less than $100, and they don’t seem to require electric brakes.

Has anyone ever done this? Can I use these? If so, what size should I get for 14” or 15” tires?
Thanks for your help. Sorry if these are dumb questions but I have no idea what I’m doing.
Bill
