1962 Shasta Airflyte Project

Postby Gunguy05 » Fri Mar 25, 2016 8:20 pm

Somehow my current teardrop turned into this...

But I am still working on TD #2

Here are some pics. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

The cushions, the appliance, and the counters are brand new.  A remodel project that was never complete.

Going to replace the middle panel at the vent, and the ends from the windows down.  I think were are going to go new appliances (since we have 1/2 of those), and vintage otherwise (floors, fixtures, decor etc).

Not sure yet on the water system.  There is not a tank now, so we might just go shore water only.  There will be 12V,....and and AC worked in somewhere.  Either under the bench or in a cabinet, where the MW is now.  Still thinking on that....

Hey Brian, the pictures aren't working for me. I see in your sig that you're in S/GA - there's a vintage trailer rally at Jeykll Island with an open house on Sat. April 30th. We'll be there in a pink and creme 1956 Shasta (leaving the Torpedo at home this time) - maybe we'll see you.

Oh crap... Let me check those out. I will be there, we live just over the bridge (in Brunswick) about 20 min from Jekyll. We will be camping in the teardrop. But, doing research for our shasta.

Btw. I would love to see (both) of your trailers. When I built my first, your torpedo was one I studied, an then in my research on shasta stuff, I came across your shasta the other night. Great work!

Looking forward to it, and hope to meet you at the rally!

Hey Brian, I enjoyed meeting you and your family at Jekyll Island. You did a great job on your teardrop, and maybe next time, I’ll get to see your new old Shasta. You guys are going to have a lot of fun with those campers - they'll be heirlooms.

I finally got started on THIS project this past weekend. Made a good bit of progress with demo and assessing what is next. Much different that the teardrop where it was plan, plan, try out, plan and then final fit. This is more of research, demo a little, look, research, and then try and replace. Same concepts as the teardrop though.

Awning and J rail off.

These ARE PRICELESS! I pulled all of the nails on the edge of the skin out easy peasy.. and they worked great for the 5 % or so of the screws that were stripped.

The back middle/lower panel only have 3 nails holding it on. It practically fell off.

Another view. The lower right panel is the worst of it.

That's it for now. I spent about 4 hours getting to this point last sat. I will be starting a write up on my blog pretty soon (if I can find the time) about the entire process. Also, video of a good part of it on my youtube channel.
