Turning a old cellphone into a camping buddy

Postby KennethW » Sun Jan 08, 2017 1:52 pm

I have a couple of old LG-L7 2G phones to make into camping aids.
The phones no longer have online capability(2G). So I am thinking of:
a good offline map app,
a offline campground app,
a blue tooth backup camera app (Put the phone on the back of the camper to back in to the camp site)
a level app to level the camper.
The map program can use a lot of memory because there will be very little on the phone.

Has anyone tried this ? Any suggestions?

I assume they do wifi? I like the back-up camera idea - not sure how that works though. Holder on back of trailer and you can see camera image in real time - no delay - on the other?

As for the level, seems so much quicker to have a bubble level or two mounted so you can just look at it - rather than having to turn it in and open app and make sure its held correctly.

How about flashlight?

Build in GPS ,Wifi is a yes,But that would only be for loading the programs and maps. I trying a flashlight app Is is not very bright on this phone but can be used if One does not have a real flashlight.
Thanks for your response.

One of the phones hidden somewhere in the trailer and connected to usb power would make a great GPS tracker in the event it was ever stolen.

It would except the reason the phone is available is it is a G2 phone and the G2 service is shutting down. So as far as I know, It is a no-go as a tracker .

I think I have the camera thing solved!
I downloaded;(( free web camera )) app on both phones
Started a wifi hotspot on one phone (You can have a hot spot without any internet.)
on the other phone linked to the hot spot
I installed and started the (free web camera) app
Now I have a back up camera for free. with a old cell phone.
