While I've chimed in on several favorite threads... I'm Still aiming to have a teardrop this summer. I won't guess when, but yard camping this week firmed up my resolve again.

Putting a lot of thought into it the past few days I'm back to a small weekender project; minimal size and galley... I really want to use the KISS principle... shop built doors, and Wiley windows. Going with the weekender/rockhopper-ish profile for straight cuts.

I have foam on hand, trailer should be here in a couple of weeks... the rest is up in the air

Some of your bends are too sharp for a foamie unless you start kerfing...

Mike, I'm fine on kerfing.... on the next trailer. planning on doing the weekender instead now. This is going to be a minimal build ... sleep platform pretty much

Ultra Light Foamie Weekender (sleep Platform)

Postby Ned B » Thu Jun 01, 2017 2:14 pm

At the risk of being over-confident (again) I'm going to pick up the plywood tonight, I'm going with PT 3/4 for the base, then a raised floor to build out over the wheels. Hopefully that will let this be useable for Lori as well. Still aiming at a straight lines design, but to help combat her claustrophobia I'm working up a lifting roof a-la the rockhopper.

At worst I'll have a spacious hard sided tent for one, at best, camping with my best gal!

The plywood is in the shop, I'm in Virginia for my parents anniversary and my mom's birthday.

My copilot and I had an easy trip yesterday.

Looking like I'll pick up the trailer in a week or so. New firm goal is to be campable by July 8th

If you are going for light 3/4 base is over kill. 3/8 is all you need as you will be just laying on it.(not walking)

I see your point. I'm hesitant to use 3/8... I'll find a use for the 3/4.

I'm looking at a quick build finally...

Doing a quick proof of concept in 1/4" foamboard, found it at hobby lobby for $2 a panel. I'll put pics up tonight.

Has anyone attempted a weekender out of foam?
