Ok, so, first trip was last week. Did a run down to Sedona area. Wheel bearings were warm, not hot. Didn't have a battery on that trip, camped two nights at Dead Horse Ranch state park. Had power at site. Got cold. Near freezing at night. Blew 3 amp fuse on the EzBreeze 600 single speed fan. First night, had windows open for ventilation, froze our butts off. Thank god for a good, queen size sleeping bag. Interior was wet with condensation. Walls were cold all night. Replaced fuse with a 5 amp in the AM, second night, fan was freaking loud. Put window screening over the climate right intake ports, used them for ventilation instead of open windows. Decided top shelf should remain a shelf instead of putting a cabinet face on it.
Upon return, installed a $17.99 DC motor speed controller from amazon, bought and installed an 80 amp/hour duracell group 24 agm battery. Installed a trim piece on top shelf in lieu of cabinet face.
Also, bought two sewer caps, drilled out the centers with a 2.5" hole saw, glued in window screen for vent intakes.
Second trip, to the canyon, first night, slowed fan way down, used both intakes. Dry interior, but too much airflow still. Second night, capped one intake, slowed fan down way more, interior still dry, less cold.
Determined that buying the climate right for heat and air con is imperative. Tired of freezing. Also determined I prefer sleeping on anything other then a sleeping bag. Love our mattress. 8" memory foam off amazon. Very comfy.
Nice and quiet inside, tows excellent, tows quietly as well. No banging or clanking. Also prefer Route 66 to I-40. Less stressful, smoother road.
As for the canyon, it is amazing! Book campsite in advance. It is always busy. Like, absurdly busy. We were at the KOA in Williams first night, and Mather Campground second night. It was cold, I would have preferred the RV park with hookups and a heater. My back is not happy with the cold to be honest. Boon-docking during more temperate times of the year would be fine for me, but not in 36 degrees. Eat breakfast at El Tovar Hotel restaurant, once. Its an amazing view, excellent food and white glove service. Dinner requires reservations and fancy dress. We were good after one full day there. We didnt do any hiking though. Day after easter at the south rim was far too many people for my liking, but would do it again in a heartbeat. North rim is the next one for the GC for us.
Watch a sunrise and a sunset. It is worth it.
