Advice on door and hatch seals?

Postby harryrauser » Tue Jul 04, 2017 3:36 am

Hello all,

I recently bought my first teardrop trailer, a self-build from a craftsman from my area. It's great but it isn't watertight alas. I am trying to figure out what might be the best way of remedying that. I've been browsing through related forum posts and found a few interesting inspirations. Hope you don't mind me asking your advice regarding my particular design. How would you go about it? Please have a look at this video I made to show the details.

Thank you very much in advance!

That door should have a gutter above it. https://www.google.com/search?q=trailer ... 66&bih=659 It is an easy fix, and will possibly fix the problem.

Nice looking camper you got.Definately a gutter over door. Also when hatch is open during rain a diverter of some sort will keep water out.ideally the hinge and rubber seal
should have extended 3/4 to 1 inch past the sides to prevent leak into hatch.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will definitely try and find gutters or have some made. Do you think I should add some exterior covering of the gap? Something to overlap the wall so I would have room for another set of sealing?

!. Install better Door Hatch Seals on the inside surrounding the door.

2. Install a Drip Cap on the exterior above the door(s).

3. Install a Hurricane Hinge to the galley hatch that protrudes about 1/2" to 1" beyond the exterior walls.

I looks like you live in the UK. Are these or similar parts available to you?

Hello Esteban, thanks! I did put in better seals, that helped. A drip cap like this would be great, I think that would make all the difference. Unfortunately my door has a curved top edge so the straight drip caps won’t work. I’ll contact that place to see whether they could customise one of these. - no I live in Germany, I have not seen that type of drip cap around here...
