Turned out to be a beautiful day early this morning. The sun was in our favor.

I finished mounting the drop box. Trimming it out to fit opening in frame.
152055
Originally thought I'd wake up grumpy early this morning, but decided to let him sleep in a little longer.. :eyebrows:
Did wake him (youngest son) up and he helped me move the trailer outside. More room to work. And with all the dust we were going to make. The wind was blowing just right..
152053
Except what got on him :D
152052
I'm lucky he likes to help his dad. He is a great help when needed.
152054
After all the sanding, We cut the first piece of plywood, for the decking. Applied plenty of glue.
Set in place, nailed and clamped..
152051 152050
Will let it dry over night and start again in the morning with the other sheets..
Stay safe, David

At the shop at 7:30 this morning...
Going to get this deck done today, sun, rain or snow... :D . better not snow here in Central Texas.. I hate the snow...

Cut and Installed the second piece of ply, glued really good and clamped.

152061 152060

Let set for two hours. Good and set when I checked it.. Left most clamps on anyway... except where I needed to do the next piece..
Checked frame where the last piece needed to be and we are still square.. :)
Cut, glued and clamped piece on... will be a small seam on this piece, didn't want to cut a whole other sheet... ;)

152058 152059

Just run a 3/4" scab under the seam. it will hold great....
Routed the opening of the drop box out using a flush bit.. looks good.. Still have alumium to do on the outside corners of the box..
Then will lay linoleum in drop box later..Caulk all corners with silicone.
Finish it before I do the linoleum on the decking..

152057

Letting the glue dry on deck section, then will go cut and install that last small piece.. will be ready to flip over tomorrow, with little bro's help
and do aluminum on box corners.
Then cut and glue in all the foam...
Stay safe, David

Happy New Year Everyone..
No time with the TD deck. :( Weather's not co-operating. To cold to get anything sealed.. Did get the deck completed, flipped over and ready to seal..
Frustrated with the time it's taking just to get the deck and trailer done.. :o Thought I'd be much farther along by now.
Moved the side template to the house, so I can work on laying out the cabinets and fender placements. Get a better idea of the real size of it all..
Want to make wood fenders for the TD.. any thoughts for or against doing so would be appreciated..
Stay safe, David

Great start to the New Year.. :D
Though the weather hasn't co-operated in being able to seal my trailer decking.. I decided that wouldn't hold me up on everything..
Deciding to move ahead with ordering things for the tear drop I need when the build resumes. Having those items on hand
Was holding off on the hinge for the hatch. Reading more of the forums here on what others have used. Hurricane hinge viruses living hinge etc.
I do understand that the cost of one compared to the other is taken into consideration..

Finding the new hurricane hinge design with the rain gutter the size I needed at 62" for $60.00 and no shipping.. I couldn't resist ordering it.. so I ordered it Jan 1st, and it arrived today Jan 4th.. Fastest shipment I've ever received ordering anything with free shipping..
Other orders included the tail, parking, brake lights. That I will recess into the hatch.. :) Clearance lights to match the tail lights. Led purple strip lights that will be mounted under the tear floor for accent lighting. And inside the cabin. The two 4" full size foam sleeping mattresses that will fold up on either side of the drop box table in the tear..
So this week and next week should be like Christmas all over again, with packages arriving at different times.. Santa's going to be good to me.... :applause:

Finally a heat wave (for us).... temps above 50 for a few days..
Decided to take advantage of the weather..

Cut and glued the insulation in the frame,

152528 152550 152551

Weather held out.. so decided to coat the bottom of frame with Gardner Flex-Guard Rubberized Sealant. :D

152552

Accent lights come next, then flip it over and get it bolted to frame..
Then start working on the cabin..

Underneath frame accent lights all wired together and mounted to the bottom of the frame on Sunday..

152555 152556 152557 152558

Today, moved the trailer outside.. and was able to flip the floor over and into position with some help..

152597 152598

Tomorrow will bolt it to frame, fill in any plywood knots, sand and it will be ready for the linoleum..

Thanks Tom,,
Slow but getting there.. between health and weather. Glue takes so long to dry when it's cold. So not as far a long as I would like to be.
Working on the sides now.. would like to get them up maybe next week..
Thanks so much for the help with the answers to my questions.. :)

Are you working on number two yet? Or did you keep the Beetle?
Stay warm,
Stay safe, David

Re: Raven's Nest- Tear Drop up-date 1/19/18

Postby Staryder61 » Fri Jan 19, 2018 1:38 am

Cold today but pushed on..

Did get one wall up temporarily to check the profile and position on the frame..

152629 152630

Took a drive out to the country,, where I had found an old motor home that had been wrecked. :) Talked to the gentleman again for a few minutes.
Then started the work on removing the windows I needed. Took awhile, but with the help of my youngest boy and 3 hours. We came back to the shop with these:

All slide open and have screens, few small scratches on frames, no broken glass. Will clean up really nice, then mask off with tape and paint the frames.

152631 152632

Go back tomorrow and pull the fantastic fan off the roof.. $100 for everything.. What a deal?
Stay safe, David
