Rooftop a/c installed

Got the al top installed, so I was able to finally do the final install on the the a/c and fantastic vent.

Did anyone notice the change in the weather today? The polar ice caps stopped melting, geese temporarily started their flight south, and storms started brewing from the collision of the warm summer air and the cold air from my teardrop. My dog even stopped panting!

Even without doors on yet the interior quickly cools. I know this was an expensive option as compared to using a window unit, but the unit is quiet on the outside, relatively quiet on the inside, and very little vibration noticeable from the compressor when running. My only design problem right now is to direct the condensate where I want it go go. Now I can look forward to doing the interior cabinet work in the cool.

Best of all was the brief escape from the heat and the discovery that an empty beer can with a coozie on it makes an excellent pillow!

SWEET!!!

Also, the vent is good to open for light, and it's probably 12V anyway.

This is a GOOD overbuild!

I like it! Looks good.

Granted, a bit large, and as you already said, an expensive option, but it sure make figuring out where you're going to install the A/C easier.. Wish they made the units smaller.

What is that a 13500btu unit? Only reason I ask is because my dad told me that the 31ft Airstream he is giving me has one.

I guarantee you that as soon as I finish building mine, they'll make one.

Tracy and Mike,

Hello. My name is Tony, and I am an over builder! It is a 12 volt vent for when there isn't shore power. Since I didn't know how cold the a/c would make the tear, I also wanted it for air balance. Looks like I won't need it for that.

Asian,

The unit is a 7700 btu Polar Cub, the smallest btu I could find. We really need to band together and see if we can find a manufacturer to make a suitable size 2000 to 3000 btu size. Even though we are a growing group, the market size might not be there to make that economical.

SteveJ,

I might have to pack a parka to sit inside and drink my beer. Come to think of it, I really won't need to carry an ice chest in the galley to keep my beer cold, I can just crank up the a/c and shut the doors!

A parka would be a good idea. People laugh when they look inside and see a sheet the bed spread and two queen size velux (hotel type) blankets in the tear in the middle of summer.

Steve--You're right. Thanks for reminding me. Must add window curtains to the shopping list . . .

Tony,

Hey guy......I'm all for comfort!!! My problem is just about the time I stop sweating, my wife's lips turn blue, and her teeth start chattering!!

My wife is a small woman... I out weigh her by a hundred pounds..... I might have to cobble something using that "comfort zone" system they use in Cadillacs!!

All you need is a curtian down the centre.
Commandant Louis Joseph Lahure has a singular distinction in military history - he defeated a navy on horseback. Occupying Holland in January 1795, the French continental army learned that the mighty Dutch navy had been frozen into the ice around Texel Island. So Lahure and 128 men simply rode up to it and demanded surrender. No shots were fired.
