I am coming up on 2 years and I'm still not finished. I know that is not exactly encouraging words, but ya gotta enjoy the journey that's all I can say. :)

You have already accomplished quite a lot and the work you have done is impressive. The "journey" is enjoyable and would be more-so if I knew what I was doing :-) That is where this forum has been a real blessing and encouragement...

I made a little headway this week...

The first photo is not my work but what I would have liked my finished effort to look like... A Dream Breaker Box! What a nice piece of work...
Well its time to wake up and take a look at what I really accomplished. It's not quite awe-inspiring, nor does it come close to Honorable Mention, I just hope folks don't think I hired a blind electrician without arms! If I ever do it again, I think I could do a considerable better job, but hopefully this will work for now.

Here is a photo of my Progressive Industries' Hardwired Electrical Management System (EMS). It should provide full surge and electrical protection against all adverse power conditions. I hope to get it wired in the next day or so. It looks pretty simple, but so is life if you know what you are doing :-) The shorter cable is shore power coming in from the outside. The longer cable goes up to my Main Breaker Box. This set up will inside one of my base cabinets. I'll just make a cut-out where it will go.

Getting all the wires nice and neat and all uniform in panels takes a little skill. I am not an electrician, but I have wired a few and replaced a few panels in my time and each time they look a little better. As long all the wiring is properly connected, it is all the same when you put the front panel on. Good for you for tackling the project.

Well... after a few moments gazing at my "Breaker Box Jambalaya", I think that I might be able to straighten out the Black/Hot wires and clean up the appearance a bit. It kinda looks like Phyllis Diller's hair!

This is what my electrical cabinet looked like before I put the face on and etc.. I later replaced the auto transfer with a manual transfer switch. This is all my AC/DC , inverter, converter, and solar connections. I have a lot going on in there. 2 years later it is going strong. As I recall, it took me a while to sort out all those wires and make them somewhat neat. The batteries (x3) and cutoff switch are below all this on the floor in the same closet. Needed to be a close run to the inverter which will draw up to 120Amps when it is cranking out the power for the microwave.

Awesome as always... Everything has it's place! I'm assuming you have an optional location for your ham rig so you can sit while working DX?

Haha.. good eye. Yes, that is a dual band 2M/70cm radio. The face remote mounts. I mounted that right on the wall where the dinette is. The backend stays in the cabinet. It connects with an standard RJ45 ethernet type cable which I ran over to the dinette.

Don,
I can see where your Icom 706 could be of some value if you get stuck off somewhere without a cell tower or a vhf/uhf repeater in the neighborhood and it looks like you like to ride your KTM in some of those areas. I may eventually install one of my amateur radios in the trailer, but I'm afraid that it might take away from my fishing time when camping...

Trailer Update:

I didn't get any photos, but my wife did a wonderful job of staining the ceiling. She picked out the stain and applied it herself. We decided it would be much easier if the ceiling was stained before attaching it. We've got it all stained except for the vee section and I will get that taken care of after we attach the main four panels. That way I hope to get a better/tighter measurement before cutting the final panel. I'll try to remember to snap a photo or two once we get the ceiling attached.

I've got another fastener question:

Postby FlyBye » Sun Apr 15, 2018 6:04 pm

How did you guys attach your ceiling to the top of the trailer?

Did you just staple or brad nail the rascal up there?
Did you use a short narrow wood screw with a flat head?
Did you a longer screw to secure the plywood to the metal beams?
Or another method?

I'm using some thin plywood (5mm) that will need to be attached to 3/4" wood furrings. My chief concern is obviously is for it not to come down by itself when attached properly. Secondary concerns although related would be that I didn't split the wood or that I didn't use fasteners that would not penetrate the wood deep enough to hold up the plywood ceiling. What did you use to fasten your ceiling to the trailer?

Thanks

I ran 1*2 furring strips down the length of the trailer 16" apart except for the last run which was about 10" wide. I screwed the furring strips into the ceiling "beams" with self tapping metal screws. I used that space to put another inch of insulation and then I screwed the Luan Plywood into the strips using countersunk wood screws (I let the screws pull into the Luan just below flush so I could fill the heads with a Spackle and paint over). The ceiling being Luan is all not that heavy and after two years it is still as tight as it was they day I installed it. The cabinets and walls which I installed later also hold it on place so in reality, it would go nowhere just because of that.

Here are some pics of it in progress.

How long were your screws into the furring strips? And did you have any problems with the thin Luan Plywood splitting?
My furring strips aren't going anywhere. They have been attached and should withstand doomsday! It's just that thin 5mm plywood that got me concerned
