Thanks for the wind speed info.

I have the Coleman 10X10 it goes up easily - just keep an eye on the loops that the poles pass thru. I ripped one (repairable) while erecting with excessive force trying to escape the bugs. The bug room works preventing bug induced suicides.
Only draw back is I feel like I am inside not outside :) I am coping with it. This is a first world problem.

yeah I want to get one of those coleman bug shelters. only thing is I was hoping I could somehow modify it so it could go right up against the side of my trailer somehow..

I intend to set up a screen that rolls down the inside of the door frame with velcro as well.. but not sure how i'd accomplish some sort of reasonable seal to the outside screen tent, since it doesn't seem to have a flat side.

I have been looking at shelters for over a year now and not found the perfect solution. The bug house is a compromise for me. My rig is on the lighter side of the TD world so I like to keep everything small. Also space is an issue for me because I usually have a couple bikes shoved in the camper with the gear. The advantage of keeping everything light is being able to pull my camper with any small car. I want to keep it that way. I am waiting for some company to copy that Kelty shelter that was popular a few years ago.

The weight was less of a concern for me because of the size of the foot print. The poles are STURDY I would think a shelter this size would eat fiberglass or aluminum poles and fittings. Set up was not bad if you’ve done it once even with tie down lines. I would think additional time would be eaten up with having to secure additional lines on a lighter shelter the same size.

But for me it was the perfect fit of the opening and the easy up tent that fits inside as a changing room. The trades are ok for my preferences and uses. I do like hearing what others have found and look for.
Some day I will figure out something to put here. But for now....

The no longer made REI Alcove weighs in at 18 Pounds each. But it fits right over the galley perfectly in my case. REI is now selling this one which looks similar https://www.rei.com/product/115519/kelt ... de-shelter

I sometimes take a Noah's tarp or other rope and pole tarp thing like a wing with 10 foot poles. Those are very compact and VERY lightweight when compared to a free standing structure, Fine for me to use for a roomy sitting area. Not so good over the galley in my case due to the ropes. The rope and pole thing is very good in wind that would blow down or rip the free standing structure like the REI Alcove.
