Well I hate to admit it but I actually couldn't find a good almost free source for plywood so I had to bit the bullet and spend $120.00 for 6 sheets of 3/8 a/b interior for the ceiling. I need to get it installed before the remaining drywall is put in place to allow the drywall to help support the ceiling. I also picked up another 2 gallons of polar seal.Total out the door was $160.00 +/-
:NC

I love the polar seal it is like putting on a rubber wet suit for the siding. I want to coat the zip panel with it to help seal the joints and waterproof the entire surface, I will give the joints extra attention and may even go back with silicone if the polar seal doesn't fill in as well as expected. The weather is 70's- mid 80's today and the humidity is down so it should be a good afternoon to get 'er done.

Well the 14th I coated the exposed zip panel with the white elastopolymer paint ( Polar Seal) It sealed a lot of the seams and will give a good grab for the paint tinted drywall topping. It will be sealed with another coat of the polar seal tinted. I am looking for a stucco effect. It was hot but Sunday was hotter and muggier. Sunday I insulated the cavities on the shelf bed side and started lining the water tank area with more scrap zip panel. I realized 1/2 of the two sleeping area windows would be below the mattress level so I moved them up the 8" I had left to move them. The insulation was 9 to 1pm and I took a cool down break until 4pm them gave it two more hours to move the two windows. Things sure slow down when it's hot!

Monday my last play day before work interrupts again. Woke up early (6:30) and gathered the trash scraps of foam from the insulation effort. Got three huge bags and stuffed it in with the land lady's trash in the dump toter. I beat the trash guys by about 12 minutes :D

It is now 7:40 and it is like walking into a hot steam towel outside and a misty rain has started. I would be miffed but the garden needs any moisture it can get so I hope it pours down. My achey old body needs a goof of day anyway. Will probably go shopping for paint ,topping compound, and a couple weatherproof exterior outlets for the Depot. The chickens need feed and the tiny house builder is out of beer.

Weather breaks tomorrow for 3 days , the same 3 days I will be in an air conditioned office counting boards. :x

I wish the good days were my work days. Next weekend is forecasted for 3 of my 4 free days with rain.

It is impossible to believe but in 60 some days it will be a year since the Depot was started :frightened:

SCORE !!!!

Was at rural king to get the chickens some feed and a whole section of specialty electrical boves were marked for clearance Weatherproop surface mounted aluminum electrical box with weather tight plugs in a bronze finish for $1.45 and the water seal cover for 91 cents. Less than $5.00 and I have my two outside outlets for the depot.

But wait it gets better............ :D

Went looking for a dark grey paint to blend into drywall compound to make the grey stucco effect for the Depot siding. A gallon of exterior paint runs from 26 to 48 dollars a gallon

I was trotting down the paint isle at Ace (is the place) and spied several cans on the floor. Asked my buddy at Ace what was up and he's told me it was the mismatch pile. I asked how much of a bargain it was. He wasn't sure but take them to the cashier and she will get a price. Long story short $5.00 a gallon and $2.00 for a quart.

So about $40.00 bucks worth of paint for $7.00 God I love a bargain.

If you look close and do the math my helper is about $700.00 of the reported cost. If I take him out of the picture I will come in well under $2,000 in materials. This is a bit slanted though because I had had the trailer almost 10 years and I think I paid $350.00 for it back then. There are a few other items that I purchased back when, but most of the build is found and free materials.

A great example is , last night I met Jeffy II in Lebanon and he gave me 125 feet of 8 gage 4 wire S O cord. (Think monster extension cord). I priced it on line today at $ 2.25 a foot the math is up town of $280.00. I had to force him to take $20.00 for gas money. It is rated as fully submersible so it will get buried for the main line to the depot from the breaker box in the little tractor barn.

Thank God for good friends and good luck ! :worship:

Dodging rain I set up a 10 x 10 pop up canopy on the "platform" ( the patio trailer) to be able to run the power tools in the rain. I solicited a second helper and the three of us installed the 3/8 AB plywood on the ceiling of the depot. Right now it looks like 6 sheets of plywood screwed to the ceiling. But with the truss coverings and the trough lighting I think it will be quite sharp. Leaning towards translucent white stain to allow the pretty grain to telegraph thru. The $70.00 labor cost just shoved me over 2K out of pocket in this build. :D

Well 3/4 of the metal roof is on ! It needs some loving and some trim and such but I remind myself it was absolutely free. I love free ! :D

UPDATE : All of august is GONE  What did we get done. One weekend was the big house in a barn sale. Wow what a disappointment. One weekend with two helpers we got all the nice plywood ceiling in. Worked on the exterior car siding. A lot of the work was simply clean up and restacking the supplies and lumber. It seems the world is flying by and I am at a crawl.

Went shopping the 31st and stocked up on more construction screws and bit the big one and purchased the stainless roof package for the wood stove, OUCH ! A quick 225.00 hole in my wallet. Thank God I had kept three 36" sections of the insulated stainless chimney or it would have been much worse. This weekend Sept 1st and 2nd my helper and I got the last of the steel roofing installed. Well "kinda" installed. The material was used, so a few ill placed holes need to be filled with silicone and a couple coats of polar seal applied. We didn't have quite enough ribbed roofing to get the short 45 degree side completely covered so we invented a cure by creatively augmenting with the shallow corrugated material in the center. I used this shallow corrugated on the tractor barn extension roof. In this transition area I will install the 6 solar panels so there are 2 good points. The eye will be drawn to the panels rather than the change in roofing material and mounting the brackets will be much simpler on the very shallow corrugated material. It was hot as hell and the glare off of the white steel made it worse so it was a couple of short days. It is scary to think in less than 30 days I will have been working on the Depot for a full year. :o

just went thru and added up the dollars paid out in outside help $925.00

That means my tiny house to date has cost $1458.50 in materials.

Oh the free air conditioner the land lady gave me proved to be a bit too tired to do any good. Last week the neighbor offered me a bigger unit the he said was AOK ~~~~ well he was giving me a story to get me to haul it away. :(

I plugged it in to check it out and the on the line GFI would not hold. Not to be denied I simply cut off the GFI plug in and added a heavy duty male plug in end. It worked like a champ so we cut the in the wall hole a tad bigger and in it went. It will make snow on high :D

I LOVE FREE !

Well rain finally went away so back at it. LAST MONDAY 9/10 during the rain I did get about 150 sq ft of drywall up. But this weekend we were smokin'! The car siding is finished on the front and back of the depot. We ripped out the windows and doors and adjusted them to plane out with the car siding so trim could be installed. A filler was added to the top where the stucco will be and all windows doors and even the AC unit were halo trimmed with mitered corners and a neat beveled edge. It was a good 8 hours of work for two of us. It doesn't sound like 16 man hours of work but it was but OH what a change it made. I did make my donation to Menard's. Yet another 175.00 for ridge vent and Tec screws for the steel roof and another helping of misc. nails and screws. I hope to be able to post a bunch of new pics tomorrow. God it is looking so sweet if I do have to say so myself. :D
