Worth $400 as donor frame?

Postby Margali » Sun Apr 07, 2019 7:27 am

I have lead on 1994 Palimino TXL- FG hardside pop-up that has broken roof for $400. Was thinking about using it for donor frame and selling AC, stove, etc. The frame is really rusty looking though.https://drive.google.com/file/d/1apWybuK8giEbK7_6FbltwzCmybKV9wds/view?usp=drivesdk

Good or bad deal?

Depends....is it just surface rust? If so, not a huge problem. I recently picked up a 1984 Starcraft tent trailer for $150; just had surface rust... a gallon of Corroseal @ Amazon is about $50.
You have to make sure there is no loose scaly rust. I wire brushed the frame, washed and dried it, then wiped it down with denatured alcohol before applying 2 coats of Corroseal......after the Corroseal was well dried, I applied a coat of primer and a couple top coats of Rustoleum gloss black.

I did the same as rmclarke with my 89 Jayco. My main concern was the welds around the A-frame but they looked good after wire brushing and inspecting. I wire brushed all the loose rust and then coated everything with Corroseal and topped off with Rustoleum.

What's your time worth and will your build fit the trailer without too much modification?
