New Teardrop: Feathers and Resin

Postby Cathy P. » Sat Jun 08, 2019 5:47 pm

Earth Traveler Teardrops in Santa Fe, NM is producing a lightweight, like 300 lb, teardrop using feathers and resin. Interesting concept and one I haven't heard of before. They have a couple of models which have pop-ups/pop-outs giving more space. I would give them an A+ for innovation. I am guessing they will sell a few for their uniqueness. Prices run $10,000 with 25% off currently. This would be a real "conversation piece" when one was out with it! I couldn't figure out how to link this, but the website is: earthtravelerteardrops.com

 I saw that posted somewhere else but don't remember it saying that the teardrop was made of resin reinforced feathers!

From their webpage:

The Earth T300: Fiberglass / Resin reinforced feathers
The Earth T250LX: 100% Carbon Fiber and corecell

It appears they have one prototype. Hopefully, the next one will have a tongue jack.

when you open their web-site, also check out their order form worksheet for the "Earth T250LX-PRO". Price shown at the end of the order form is $30,975.00 in other words - rounded off = $31,000.00 .............. and that's the base price not including options listed........................... (The T300-Standard starts at $10,000.00)

PS - as I said in the other post about this trailer - being from the west side of the mountains here in the PNW from the pictures of this trailer I saw, would hate to spend 'big $$$'s' for something like this only to find out it is what I think it looks like - not very 'rain' compatible.............think I'll stay with what I have already being this one so far - is doing 'great' at staying dry!! .............Take care

Could feathers actually be stronger per weight than fiberglass cloth? I like the design very much, the trick to building a one-off of this is creating the compound curves without a mold. Maybe stripbuilt foam and fiberglass like the experimental aircraft folks. What do you think? 300lbs possible?

Well, they are offering 25% off if you reserve now - so $7500 for the naked on and $22,000+ for the more or less drive away one. Those are not that far out there.

Not interested myself but just saying.

If super light is the goal, https://roadtoadcampers.com/. 400 -450 lbs. sure that’s more then 300lbs. But it has the advantage of actually existing where you can purchase one. And it seems a reasonable price, at least to me. (Speaking as someone who doesn’t want to diy a camper, and would buy instead of build)

I saw the models at canoecopia in Madison Wi a few months ago. If it had existed 6 years ago when I was originally looking, it would have been a strong contender, because at the time I had a small car
