Fiberglass Beetle Fenders on Teardrops

Postby Classic Finn » Wed Jul 19, 2006 7:05 am

I happened to find a dealer that sells restoration parts for VW Beetles..
In the same store they sell fiberglass fenders for them.

My question is how would the vw back fenders fit to a teardrop?
Has anyone done this? They are not that expensive really..

Then I found a cute little luggage carrier there for VW as well.

I dont need fenders at the moment however the idea came up while checking on other items there..

Also they have various vw running boards there as well that possibly could be adapted to the teardrop...

Ideas and more ideas ..... ;)

Stock fenders will have to be widened at the rear. There are 4 inch widened fiberglass fenders that should work though that you could cut down. Bug fenders are tapered. Depends on tire width.

Here is what you would get if you fitted those back fenders to a teardrop - the fender to the right of the yellow line would be cut off:

So they would work well if you had a trailer with the wheels mostly inside the body and you only needed a 4" wide fender.

I've been kinda thinkin' about a luggage carrier for a teardrop. Sort of thinking about something that would fold down to about what you have pictured, but would transform into a privacy curtain for outside the door. I don't have any cad programs, but have a few drawings, that I'm putting in my future build foler. I think it would look cool and would be great if it worked as a cabana sort of thing.....

luggage rack would be nice but wife is installing a moonroof instead. That's ok. We'll most likely be towing with our truck so anything that doesn't fit in the tear can fit in the back of the truck.
