How much do you usually have to pay for the inspection/registration?
I haven't even looked into it here.

I can't recall an actual inspection fee.

Idaho does these for two reasons, first to make sure the vehicle to be registered isn't using laundered stolen parts and secondly to whap you for stuff you didn't pay sales tax on.

Obviously, I didn't make this from a chop shop, but I will be handing him a check.

I keep the receipts and an Excel file showing what I bought with and without sales tax.

But I'll let you know.

p.s. It's not about lights or anything like that.

Thanks. I’ll be curious to see if the color attracts more tear tours than our aluminum clad one does.

Your mention of tax made me go back and gather up all of the receipts for expenses to date.
I had intentionally been shoving receipts into dark holes in the garage, and never the same place twice, because I didn't want to know how much the trailer was costing.
But if I may need them to prove that I'm legal, it's probably a good idea to keep tabs.

I collected them, but didn't add up the total.

To date, the only thing (purchased specifically or tangentially for the trailer build) that I have not paid tax on was the insulation. ...Which, ironically, is the only thing I have been able to picked up locally, so far.
The guy told me over the phone that I'd have to pay tax, but only gave me a 20 minute window for pickup and the shop was absolute chaos when I arrived. He looked at the invoice, voiced his lack of desire to write it up properly, looked at me, looked at the invoice, looked at the cash in my hand, looked at the clock, handed the invoice to the foreman next to me, and said, "Put this on Charlie's job. They'll pick up the tax for this one..."
Okay...

I guess that insulation ended up in Charlie's well house or whatever he's building. At least on paper.

I'm going to have to scratch out a check for $109.26.

Indeed. I have no idea what the job was, but I it sounded like the tax would be paid (or 'absorbed' by someone) one way or another.

$109 isn't bad.

That's because I bought $929 in wood and foam locally and a ton went through Amazon so the tax was snarfed up there.

The state Motor Vehicle Investigator drove three hours to take a look-see at the new 'drop. Title inspection. (He had other business here too.)

Image

Their primary focus on these inspections is to make sure stolen parts aren't getting laundered into rebuilt cars and trucks. But their secondary role is to ensure that sales tax has been paid on any parts before they will issue the title. I had an Excel file with two columns showing what purchases had been made with Idaho sales tax and what hadn't. I had a fat folder of receipts that he didn't look at. I think he knew it was all there.

He issued a VIN number, riveted it to the tongue and stamped it into the steel.

I wrote a check for $171. $114 was for unpaid sales tax. The rest was for inspection and licensing fees.

That plate is temporary. In a couple of weeks, I'll receive a personalized Idaho Cutthroat plate that says, TEAR.

She's bonafide.

And tomorrow I'll deal with Hartford.

Unfortunately, brutal weather is bearing down on Idaho and Montana this weekend so no camping in the immediate time frame.

Here's from NOAA:

WHAT...Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of mostly
10 to 18 inches possible, but even higher amounts possible in
the mountains. Lower elevations in Jefferson, Broadwater, and
Meagher Counties may only receive 3 to 7 inches of snow. North
to northeast winds could gust as high as 40 mph at times. Cold
wind chill temperatures of 5 to 15 degrees above zero are
possible.

Fortunately, that's a bit east of here but, crazy, eh?

Sounds crazy as I am north of the border, but must be south from where you are. :?
Our weather here is still ok for a dunk in the lake I guess.

Tony, very good & proud of you for paying your taxes to keep our economy moving in the right direction. Larry just looked at your build (The Road Toad) & was wondering if you are planning on any accent stripes to break up the orange real estate a bit. I thought it might be good idea as well. Just wonderin'...
