Slowcowboy I can't give you a for sure answer because I've never made them before. I can say I don't think it would be too hard. If I were you I'd get ahold of a big piece of cardboard, open your hatch, and trace the opening to create the pattern. Don't forget to add extra to accommodate folding the fabric over for your hems. On the two sides that attach to the trailer also add an extra inch so they overlap your opening and you can attach the flaps with snaps (the traditional method I think) or Velcro (the more modern easier method).

I got the trailer out to Banff this week for some biking and camping so here is that picture.

The green awning in the foreground is the one I made. There is a blue 10x10 shelter behind it.

I think I could shorten the fiberglass poles a little more but I don't want to end up with them too short. Maybe I'll experiment if I sew an awning for the other side of the trailer.

Looks GREAT drhill! :applause:

I'd also like to make a second one like your 10x10 shelter to put my camp kitchen in so I can cook outside even when it's raining. And yes, I was also afraid of cutting the poles too short so they are nice and tight and won't slip from the corner pockets.

Does anyone have a copy of the tutorial they could post? The blog/link is gone.

Sorry I don't. Basic sewing/hem stitch on seams and I bought a keder rail and stitched in a cord to fit it. I did attempt a cut piece of PVC pipe for a rail and worked okay.. the keder is better if you're thinking of curving at all.

Thanks! That will be a fun read.
I am working hard at designing and building a ‘portable bedroom and restaurant’ that is very easy to set up. All ideas welcome. :)
