in the plans it says to run 16-2 sound cable to all light locations and the fan but i bought 14 gauge 12 volt wire for those locations. is that going to be o.k.? or do i need to use the 16-2 for a certain reason?[/img]

Bronco, That should work fine.

Bronc, it basically never hurts to run larger wire...we basically used 14ga wire for all our hook ups with the exception of the power in leads from the battery to fuse block where we used 10 ga......

Hi

For a Fan and Lights I would consider 14 AWG to be the absolute minimum, personally I would use 10 AWG

I hate voltage drop, its a waste of power and causes waste heat.

Overdoing the wire costs next to nothing in weight or money and saves you power in every use. (I dont really consider it as Overdoing it, to me its doing the Job right)

BTW sound (twin) wiring underates the wire even further 16-2 is under size for a fan and lights, this underating is further exacerbated by the fact that the wire is buried

There is a wire chart: take a look in the part 2 section.

just make sure your circuits are run with wire that is adequate for whatever you overcurrent rating is. that is, providing you are using overcurrent devices!
