neat design........

A boat builder friend of mine in New Zealand, John Welsford, designed the stool for a workshop that he was teaching for women. It was to teach material sourcing, tool use & finishing. He designed the project around using pallets for materials.

I had a nice pile of poplar in my shed so I opted to use it rather than source pallets. Funny thing is a few days after I cut out the pieces my neighbor put out 4 pallets for free. I almost grabbed them but decided I didn't want to deal with them. Been there done that before.

Playing in the dirt. Fort Rock Oregon.

Went out to the desert to watch the Perseid meteor showers. We camp every year when they are peaking. Saw lots of shooting stars. Clear weather with the exception of the last afternoon. Hotter than during the days. Nice mid 40's at night. Near where we camp is an old pump house that was built in 1929 . It was used to pump water 5 miles north to holding tanks. The holding tanks were used by at the logging camps and the for the locomotives that were hauling the timber out.

Fixed those photos. Not sure why the post double posted, oh well.

Yeah the cannon is fun to shoot. Lately we haven't been shooting lead out of it so no real target needed. But 30grns. black powder in, Then some wadding , and a disposable foam ear plug. That gives enough back pressure to get the bang and we're not wasting lead. Can get several shots out of the ear plugs before they are toast. Another plus to using the ear plug is you can see where it went easily. With the lead ball if you miss its hard to tell where things went. Even on the lowest trajectory the cannon shoots pretty high.

Yeah we camp right on the edge of the forest and the desert. Best place to view the meteor showers. The big Ponderosa pines provide plenty of shade to beat the heat. It was upper 80's low 90's each day. Nights dropped down to mid 40's. We did have a nice consistent breeze during the day so that was nice.

Welded another jack hub onto the trailer tongue. When I put the first one on I did it on the passenger side thinking that If I needed to unhook the trailer on the highway for whatever reason I wouldn't be exposing myself to the traffic. Well when I back my trailer into its parking spot at home tow vehicle is always angled to that side. I usually can still work the crank handle but a few times its been too tight. With the new hub I can now use which ever side makes more sense.

Here's the black out curtain my wife made for the trailer. Used turnbuckles to attach it.

I Need to re-attach the fenders on my trailer. After 10,000+ miles of travel, mostly washboard the drivers side is coming off, sort of. At the bottom of the fender they are screwed to the frame. Then there's a ton of screws going into the skin and one more screw into the one stud that is behind the fender. That one snapped. When I insulated If I'd been thinking I should've pulled all the screws into the siding, installed backing and re-did the screws. That didn't happen, didn't think it'd be an issue. Now the plan is to remove the fender and install rivet studs so I can bolt the damn thing on. Ughhh! Note to those still building when you have the walls off inside if you see a ton of screws in a half circle sticking through the skin around the wheels, take care of it and do something better!

Probably tackle the project this weekend. Need to check and repack the wheel bearings so probably will do that too since it will be easier to work on the fenders with the wheels off.

Haven't done any work on the CT lately. Did squeak in another trip. Had a really nice day 1. A really wet rainy day 2. Woke up to ice and frost on day 3. For a good part of the rainy day I listened to pod casts and burnt wood in the wood stove. Was nice and relaxing. One thing that I haven't experienced (not since I lived at the coast) was rain running down the inside of the stove pipe and leaking out onto the stove top. Yes it was raining that hard and forcing rain into flue. Simple solution fire up the stove and the heat evaporate the rain. Used to happen on my boats flue for the Dickinson diesel stove. Weather caps can't always keep it out. When I have the travel/storage cap on this is not a problem.

No other leaks or issues. Supposed to snow this weekend so we'll see how many more trips we get in. Might end up driveway ca,ping with the wood stove on!
