EZ-UP collapsed on my tear - pictures ( UPDATED w/pics )

Postby Ron » Thu Aug 03, 2006 5:12 pm

I have the 12x14 easy-up I bought 2 weeks ago from K-mart on sale. It is a very large and nice canopy....BUT..........
Apparently this large canopy collects water when it rains on the four corners of the canopy and cant drain it off. When it does....THIS is the results.....

I'm not sure why this canopy did this but it sure was a disturding sight to see my teardrop under it.
Has anyone else seen this happen?

EZ-UP's are sun-shades, no doubt. 8) But after having one a while, I knew that. To make them drain one often has to put weights or bungee cords on the sides to keep the top taut. I think I've seen this mentioned someplace on the forum before. Sorry about your loss, looks like an expensive repair job.

The teardrop survived with only a couple minor scratches on the top edge molding but I was sure worried when I first saw it.

WOW!! I saw one of those at Dick's Sporting Goods and didn't like how the scissor part in the middle was real flimsy. I didn't buy one and instead, went with nothing and relied on the trees for shade. Man, I would've been super pi$$ed if one of those arms left a big 'ol scratch in the SIDE!!!!!!!!!

I don't want to make light of your tragedy but maybe it will serve as a good warning to those who have one of the canopies.

Me too. I did use it while at the IRG and didn't have any problems, yet...

Thanks for the warning. I'll have to do what Steve said about weights on the corners. ...Of course, I need to finish building my TD first.

Bled, I haven't even tried to put mine up yet, but, looking at our model, does it look like what Steve is talking about will even WORK? I think our roof configuration is a little different than the others.

Ron, the way you explained it, the water was collecting in the very 4 extreme corners, correct?

For a permanent fix, this may be a matter of cutting decent size holes in the corners, and then somehow patching them up on both sides of the fabric so they look nice.

Steve, what do you think? And Doug, our seamstress?
Here we go again!

Yeow! :( I think I'll stick with the 10 x 10......

Ron, seeing your trailer I HAVE to know something. Where did you get those wheels! I've got to have a set of those. That is a HF trailer? And do they bolt right up, or did you have to use some type of adapter?

They look great! :applause: :applause:

Wow..gald the td came away with only a few scratches............

I purchased the Quest brand through Dicks over 3 years agao, a 12' x12' model, green in color. I have to say that my experience with it has been quite good. I'm usually the camper who lugs in on long kayaking weekends as I have a pick-up truck. Whenever it rains everybody ditches their models and they wind up under my tarp. Plus we hang all sorts or gear on it. Wet PFD's and neprene spray skirts weigh a ton.

Several of my kayak friends have bought them, both the 12' x 12' and the 10' x 10' and we look like a Quest village out there on camping outings.

They look similar to the ones Little Guy uses on the Deluxe model.
