Grant's crank out window user question....

Postby b.bodemer » Wed Aug 23, 2006 4:12 pm

Grant has some really nice windows. I have a total of 4 for my build. Two up front and one for each door.

The picture shows that the height/vertical ends of the window have holes predrilled. Do you just use those to install? Is there any reason to drill the width/horizontal ends and add extra screws? I'm hoping not as the window looks good as is.

thanks,
Barb

I didn't get mine from Grant but the ones I have are exactly the same. I think they are like that because the top flange is supposed to tuck under the skin. I didn't add any extra holes to my windows, I just made shure that the tops were sealed. They guy I bought them from gave me a roll of putty tape to seal them with.

Just caulk all the way around and screw them in place. I then took the screws out of mine, filled the holes with silicone and reinstalled the screws. The top/bottom flanges hold the aluminum skin in place. If you have a RV repair shop locally most of them handle a vinyl cap that will snap in place to cover the screws. I think it comes in black or white.

Thanks Denny.................

There's an RV place right around the corner from my next favorite place that I visit often: Home Depot! I'll take the smaller window in and see if they have that cap you mentioned.

Thanks everyone for posting back. It sure helps me with my build.

Barb...here's a thought...I used the windows with the squared off corners on the first tear...the last time around I rounded them off....got the idea from Grant...really a cleaner look I think...used a radius about the size of a quarter..sprayed the trim with gold and painted out the screws black...and I did add holes along the top and bottom...just what I did....Doug

Barb
I put screws all the way around my windows. Put window on outside of Alum, Used clear silicone.
Also added alum rain cover above window. Ordered them from a RV parts dealer. pretty cheap. They come differnt lengths up to 3 feet long if I remember right.

I like those rounded corners... I wish I had tought of that... I think it makes a much nicer appearance.

I like it so much, I think I'll do it on the doors as well. I don't want a big curve, but a rounded corner would be nice.

I start the frame on no. 2 after labor day.. hope to have it done for FL in Feb.

John

Bought inside latch and outside handle with key from Grant Wipp.

Have seen the outside handle at RV supply stores and bolt supply house for about the same as Grant charges. They didn't have the inside latch though.
I think austin Hdw has them too.
