Finally - Fenders for 12" Wheels

Postby toypusher » Sun Aug 27, 2006 12:23 pm

Some pictures for those of you who "love da pics" (I know some of these were posted in another thread, but I wanted to post them all in a new thread for everyone to see.

Here are a couple of the wooden plugs that I made to create the molds from.

Here is one of the plugs with the fiberglass over them

How to get the plugs out??

Finished Molds

Now for lots and lots of wax and we can then make some fenders!!

The molds grew ears :) (need them to support the molds when doing fender layup)

My new logo on the molds

This is the mold with the fender layup curring in it

And FINALLY (Drum roll please) is a couple of pics of the actual 1st fender from the molds

They weigh about 5 - 6 pounds per pair and I will get some ideas on shipping cost tomorrow (hopefully). I don't have a final price set yet, but it is looking at right around $150.00 per pair plus shipping. Like I said that is not in stone (or fiberglass) yet, but should be pretty close to the final price. This set is staying with me, but if my work schedule allows me to this week, I will get another, mabe two sets made.

Kerry,

Thanks! The 'shop' is actually my wife's side of the garage and she is not home today. Sorry, but at least for now, I will not be making them for larger wheels. Have to see how things go over the winter, though. I might get bored and give them a try.

Hey Kerry,

Those ended up looking really nice. When are you going to hold one up against your teardrop while your wife takes a picture of it?

Mike,

I have to pull the tear out of the garage to do that, so maybe I will get a picture or two tomorrow. (if I don't get called into work again)

Ira those fiberglas fenders would look totally out of place on your build, your's look a lot better.
Commandant Louis Joseph Lahure has a singular distinction in military history - he defeated a navy on horseback. Occupying Holland in January 1795, the French continental army learned that the mighty Dutch navy had been frozen into the ice around Texel Island. So Lahure and 128 men simply rode up to it and demanded surrender. No shots were fired.
