New maker of teardrop trailer to carry motorcycles

Postby Duane King » Fri Sep 01, 2006 12:52 pm

Yesterday on a different post I offered to get a web-site address for a manufacturer in my area that is building teardrops to be used as cargo haulers. Here is a picture I took this morning of the prototype trailer he has sitting in front of his shop. He is now making these fibreglass trailers at the rate of about 8 per month. There is a Little Guy distributer that is buying them up and providing them for sale at dealers on the east coast. I don't have info on who those dealers are.

Image

The fellow making the trailers is Gary Toet. He has a website: http://www.cargo-campers.com/
His idea is that you can buy the basic trailer chassis model and then add a front shield if you want and then eventually buy a rear cover for a complete tear. Or you can buy the complete model right from the start. You can get it with or without a galley hatch on the front by the tongue of the trailer. (there is no galley though; you need to build that yourself) He also has a fold up table made on the front of the trailer. You can see it in this picture.

Go visit his web-site. He is a nice fellow starting his very own cottage industry right here on the central coast of California. The American dream is happening here in my backyard. Perhaps one of you web-site gurus can send him a nice e-mail with a link to T&TTT. I think he will want to join up. I told him about this web-site and he is very interested. A personal note would be a nice touch. You can always use another pro builder.

Thanks

Umm...... I wonder......

That particular design has shown up on this site before, and Seems to me there was a manufacturer in mid west making exact same trailer....

I could be wrong but it seems funny.....

ebay clicky

I also am from Salinas and pass by this trailer quite regularly....

EDIT UPDATE....

Seems Trailer on ebay is made by gentleman in Salinas... Seems VIN tag says TOET Manufacturing (see pic #6).

Gerdo, am I mistaken but in the picture at the start of this thread
does it look like that side door is functional? With the slit
and show of light through that crack it looks like there is
a model with a functioning side door? The web site doesn't show
a functioning side door but the top picture sure seems to?

It's really cool looking, but I'd like to see how anyone has modified it for hauling AND camping, with galley.
Here we go again!

I have posted two entry door pictures that I took this morning. You can find them by clicking on my album. He is trimming the door opening with 2 x 2 aluminum that has been kerfed almost all the way through to allow for bending. His website shows a painted on door because he had not created the actual door at the time he needed photos for his website. His name is Gary Toet and his phone number is (831) 442-3900. He is one of the nicest guys you will ever talk to. Besides me, of course.

Duane
Don't think I was criticizing. It is cool to see the shape making a bigger appearance.

Ira:
If you look at this ebay set of pics Here > http://tinyurl.com/jsm2k .
You will note they use a front galley of sorts. Using the Dee Zee box
uP front to act as a galley holding with pull out table. So it seems the
front opening and this front box act as the food service area.

Where's he located at? Any idea on the pricing? I really like the idea of buying a fiberglass shell and filling in the inside...It's big too!

Cargo camper.

Postby CPASPARKS » Fri Sep 01, 2006 4:46 pm

I don't think I would want one. The starting bid is $4,900.00.
I would not want to sleep in a fiberglass td personally.
