Lynn , welcome to the insanity, (nice avatar, by the way)... Some other options not mentioned here might be the idea of buying a used camper. There are some popups availble with indoor potties/shower facilities, like the A-Liner and used is cheaper than new...but if its the "Teardrop" that got you here, I guess that there are some concessions that have to be made. Amenities + Amenities = higher price Once camping you will be amazed at the number of curious onlookers that come around to see you, and ask questions. In my case I bought, lacking the skills to build, but the fun comes in adding personal touches like curtins and decking out the galley area. We added a Pahaque 12 by 12 side room to our Tear and it attaches to one of the side doors affording a nice "room " for privacy at night ( porti-pottie) and a place to sit and read or watch a DVD ( we have a 15inch LCD TV) that fits in a cabinet inside ( not permanent ) Some people like going to a Sandals Resort......give me a nice campground with showers, the ability to explore the area by car do some antique hunting or whatevr anyday.......

WOWSERS that cabin car gives me the jitters!!! If only I was THAT handy! Don't get me wrong, I know my way around the workshop, but I am not so confident in my ability to build from the ground up! Digressing back to Rob's Cabin car- wow I am speechless! What an incrediby innovative use of space! Ahhhh.... If only I had a beautiful workshop, some expertise, and maybe an extra set of willing hands!

Lynn, if you haven't checked it out yet, Andrew has a nice plan for a Compact-style camper with a hard sided pop-up for standing head room: here. Look at the alternate layout toward the bottom. It shows a nice set-up for a shower. Overall, I think the Compact that Andrew drew up would be a lot easier to build than the Cabin Car (although I think the Cabin Car is absolutely amazing). A couple of folks on the forum built this one, and they turned out great. Take a look at George Teague's version in the Hall of Fame.

Thanks for the kudos Lynn. Sometimes all the remodeling seems like it will never end. Guess that is part of the reason it is taking me so long to get my tear finished. Now Peg wants to build a waterfall in the back yard this next summer, so I had better get the tear finished before then. Oh, it's never ending.....

the commute would take some of the fun out of it.

but i am sure you can reach a comfortable solution if you hang around and ask enough questions.

when i build [maybe next year - or not] i am puting "standing up" way ahead of kitchens or anything else so i'm not hardly teardrop bound. i just know i'll encounter some of the same challenges and if these problems can be design out before construction, it will be that much easier.

besides, there's no shortage of free advice in the world!

Welcome to TT & TTT if you have a price that would help them find you a trailer to buy ... But chances are what you should ask is how much will it cost to build. mine is long from done mostly paycheck to paycheck buying this or that. I do not think I have past even 400 yet. but I got the trailer frame free a boat trailer. I am slow at building but I would guess I will be well under 1000 when done. But all my electical will be AAA and D battery stuff, some solar, I will have a car battery and step up that I had from tent camping.

Many of these guys and gals have ac, tv, running water, etc.

If you want to try and build you will find the best help not found anywhere else. Great people with experience and helpful willing to give you the pazaz to finish.

There are people litteryly from all over the world here and only want one thing for you to go camping in comfort.

Welcome to the forum. My advice is to figure out what you want to build, ask lots of questions and then plan, plan, plan. I'm moving along very slowly with my build. I have limited....very limited skills, but great questioning abilities. There has always been someone on this forum(at least one-usually more) willing to share answers to my endless questions. If they don't have answers, they have recommendations for places to look for answers. They have loads of experience regarding what works and what doesn't. So, go for it. Identify what you want and need, and then build it. You will be able to reach your goal and the learning process is great fun (usually).
