Window Repair

Postby Spadinator » Thu Nov 09, 2006 5:04 pm

I have been working on my slider windows for the trailer and have discovered that they are broken. There are 4 little plastic clips that center and keep the window in it's frame that are broke or missing. Does any one have any idea where I could get new ones or how to repair mine.

I did a search with no luck :( . Does the window have a manufacturer name that you could do a search on? :) Danny

Well Danny they are HEHR windows...there is a website for them but nothing supporting older windows. They don't list repair or parts on their website. I am hoping I don't have to scrap them because my doors are cut to fit them.

Spad, email Hehr directly and ask...also, many auto side windows use a similar system so check with auto body part suppliers and auto window suppliers............

I beleive Airstreams used Hehr windows. You might want to check on the Airstream forums. http://www.airstreamforums.com I know I have seen a vintage trailer site that also had some parts, but I don't have those favorites on this puter.

Thanks guys..I'll check those idea out.
Here is the window itself:

And here is the clip...it is supposed to have ridges along the outside but those are worn off. The window falls out rather that sliding.

Sorry the pics are so bad.....you can sort of see the ridges on the clip.

Are the clips missing the ridges from both sides? Can you flip/turn the clips around so the other/back/left/right side is on the front? maybe the ridges aren't worn completly on both sides.....

:?

Those clips look similar but mine are plastic and it's hard to tell how big they are. I know my photos don't give a good idea how little mine are. The ridges on the clips are on the edges and they are glued to the frame. I can only guess they are worn out becasue the window just falls out. Also the fuzzy weather stripping on the window is also gone.

I am beginning to think that I may have to use the glass and make a hopper style window with a wood frame.

if all else fails you can "build up" Lexan (you'll need a flat and some split dowels, and probably a lot of sandpaper) from a place like this:

Hi Spadinator,
You can check your local window supply shop. Also, you could call an RV salvage place and see if they have any parts.
Singleton's RV in Rochester, Washington has a bunch of bins with all sorts of used window parts. Their phone number is 360 273-9566.

Good luck!

Well I struck out today.....I checked all the RV shops and glass shops. I actually found the clip in a book at Northern Utah Glass but when we tried to order it.........DISCONTINUED!!!!! :x Hopefully that catalog will have it.
