Styrofoam and glue question

Postby Ken » Thu Dec 30, 2004 6:43 pm

I discovered today that panel adhesive (Liquid Nails) and styrofoam insulation don’t mix. I glued my first piece up and in a few minutes it fell of the wall. The panel adhesive dissolved the styrofome. I would like to glue both sides of the insulation to the inner and outer walls and ceiling for extra strength. Best idea I have come up with now is to spray carpenters glue. Anyone have any other ideas?

They make a non flamable contact cement. It is latex base but should work if you keep it dry. Should work in the walls where it ain't sapose to get wet anyway.

Liquid nails makes a product that works with foam and wood, what are you using? The metal product?

I used three layers of 1/2" polystyrene foam which bends easily. On the roof radius the layers were attached with hot melt glue till the hardboard was installed.

I just got thru installing the insulation in my tear, the blue stuff from Lowe's, and I used two rattle cans of automotive contact cement for two layers of insulation. It worked OK, but not great, but it was easy. :)

I used the 3M spray adhesive. It is a little costly, but works great to hold the insolation in place, even on the radius.

they make a product thats just for glueing styrene panels..it's made by liquid nails..kinda looks like thick glue, but it will stick to the styrene when it's dry.
