National Park Pass and the Golden Eagle Pass are discontin..

Postby halfdome, Danny » Mon Jan 08, 2007 6:57 pm

Beginning January 1, 2007, the National Park Pass and the Golden Eagle Pass were discontinued and replaced with new America the Beautiful passes. The passes provide access to and use of NPS, USDA FS, FWS, BLM and Reclamation sites which charge an entrance or standard fee for one annual fee. New rates for the America the Beautiful Pass are $80 for 12 months and $10 for seniors.

$80 down to $10 that's a hell of a discount.

Being a borderline age, what constitutes a senior?

Seniors is a lifetime pass

Postby Guy » Mon Jan 08, 2007 9:09 pm

Dear Danny,

The Senior pass is a "Lifetime" pass and not one year. Seniors are 62 years and above.

The disabled pass is free.

With the senior and disabled passes your whole carload gets in free, and most amenities are 50%of. Expanded amenities are 50% off just for the pass holder.
Regards,

Guy

Guy, Yes I know. I copied that from the Yosemite Associations website verbatim. The link explains in more detail. I'll be going over to Mt Rainier this summer to get my lifetime $10 pass. I thought for sure they wouldn't have the senior pass when all those Baby Boomers start retiring.

I have not experienced charges

Postby Guy » Mon Jan 08, 2007 10:47 pm

Dear All,

I have never had a Ranger even charge me the 50%. The only time I paid charges was at The Place with the four presidents on the mountain. (Brain fart happening, sorry) There the concessionaire not only charged 50% they charged 100% even for handicap parking.

Looks like I just qualify for the senior pass. Take guests up to Yosemite several times a year. Also plan to camp in the Sierras now that I have the tear. Definatly a good thing to have. Thanks Danny.

Around here we have state parks for $20 (no discount for anyone) a night and forest service camps for $2 (with golden pass). Guess where we go the most often?
