Martin,

Welcome.

Dzien dobry, prosze, dzienkuje. There - now you have all the Polish I learnt while visiting Gdansk from 1989 to 1996!

Heikki (classic finn) is fairly near you, but I think Pedaal from Estonia is even nearer.

Martin, I can tell ya from experience(as can others here) to make your door as large as is practical...if your tear is 4'4" tall you should be able to go with a 42" (105cm?)door or even taller...

And Martin, before you get any crazy ideas, that's not ME in my avatar.

I'm all MAN!!!

I doubt he finds many Ira's in Poland and might think that's a girl's name!

By the way, my grandparents, both sets, came from Poland, They get out while the getting was good. (See Idiom book to understand THAT one!)

Hello Martin, It amazes me how many members we have from across the pond. Welcome and I really like your bunk. How tall is your trailer? I believe you will really enjoy this sight. Boat loads of information.

Good luck with the build.

Martin, were you able to access the URL? Jeanetts bed looks like somthing an 8 year old would love. She also has a door for a slide out so he will fit as he gets bigger.

The taller door might be better. In a teardrop you sit in the door to get in, best to not bump the head. ;)

Mardors,

I've looked at your new door size, and I think you went too big.

Here's how I do a door...

First I lay in the subfloor, which is either 3/4" or 1 1/2"

Then I lay in a floor, which is about 1/2".

Then I lay in the mattress which is about 4"

Then I come halfway down the mattress and start the bottom of the door.

Then I come about 3 or 4 inches from the top of the teardrop, and that is the top of the door.

For the width, I am going from experience. I've found that a door that is wide enough to sit in comfortably, and allows you to swing your legs into bed is all you need. Historically I've done about 28", but 30" would work well too.

To locate the center of the door, go lay down in your bed. Now quickly sit up and put your feet on the floor. Now measure the distance from the centerline of your body to the head of the bed. That's the centerline of the door. For me, that's 40". So the closer you can get the center of your door to 40" from the front of your teardrop, the better! Typically you're going to find that the fender gets in the way of the door, and you have to move it a little bit forward.

Anyways, here's a pic for you.

Welcome to the group, Mardors. Just ask any question you want and as you can see, you will get an answer. Since my folks were born and raised in Sweden, I was told WE were of viking descent. I thought the viking countries were Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark. Hey if you want to call your teardrop "Viking" go for it. You could even paint a horned helmet on the side. I agree about your profile, that is my favorite shape, and you will be glad that you have made the door bigger. Enjoy your building experience, that is where the fun is. By the way, how did you get interested in teardrop trailers over there? Have you seen many others in Poland? Take pictures, post them and enjoy.

Roly, just another Scandahovian here in the States.
