the jelly belly build

Postby del » Mon Feb 19, 2007 5:04 pm

hi all

i have started the jelly belly build.
Image
i am building it wider than andrews design (six inches) but narrower than mikes wide version (it will be pulled behind my subaru). it will also be 11 inches longer than original making the internal framing simpler (relatively).
Image

so come back for a laugh or to give me advise (or both).

p.s. if we do not mention the word roswell the purists wont be offended.
mike
i meant to hit the preview and slipped so what you seen was not finished.

Are you sure that's wide enough to be a jelly belly? At the widest point it should be 74 5/8". Your wood doesn't look quite that wide...

Whooohooo!!!! Go for it Del!!!! Wasn't it Ronny Reagan that made Jelly Belly famous? Doesn't look like that traditional Ronny Reagan conservatism...Enjoy!!!

Kinda looks like a Pinto. But that's ok because the shape looks better on a teardrop than a car.

You go boy! Love the profile :applause:

You build the wide one, I'm building the Roswell (check out the model in my photo album). The two would look good side by side.

What are you going to use for the outside skin?

How about calling it the "Area 51" ?

dave
i believe it was jelly beans.

dale
sorry, in my defense i would like to come up with a non copyrighted name. like it to be candy sounding.

wolf
with no door how do you get into it.

jim
the pacer had a lot of glass, why we called it a glass coffin. my trailer will have four neat little round windows.

todays work included assembling a second spar assembly, and making a correction for my lack of counting ability. they have to be the same so i clamped them together to make the second one.
Image
i remember a thread on the most important tool for building a teardrop, i think clamps should have made the list.(':laughter:')
Image
lets see ein, zwei, drei, vier,...sechs spars.
Image
now to make them the same, sander check.
Image
hopefully more progress tomorrow and no wind.

The Jelly Belly was Ronald Reagan's favorite jelly bean. If you go to the Jelly Belly factory in Fairfield, Calif., you can see a portrait of President Reagan made out of jelly beans. Looks amazing good. There are other portraits and pictures too. Also for one of his inaugurations they made some new flavors of Jelly Bellys so he could have red, white and blue beans. Blue - blueberry, white - coconut, and red I think is cherry.

I like the look of your teardrop plan painted a bright color to look like a Jelly Belly, now you just need to come up with a slight name change.

Good luck with your build.
Martha :)

The Jelly Belly factory in Fairfield was one of the first places we took our teardrop, 1.5 years ago My son was two at the time, still talks about the jelly bellies in the cement mixers.

Del, I bet the folks at Jelly Belly would like your tear, I sure do.

Steve J. is right, they just might like your teardrop as you're not mass producing them and it would be free advertising for them. That's one of those things you only find out by asking. Maybe there are people on the forum who know how to go about aproaching companies about such things.

Most large companies have a public information officer. I am not really sure the words Jelly Belly can be copyrighted when not pertaining to a candy. Kinda like cornflakes. You can always call and ask.
